Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Entire EC Needs to Go

I think most employees hate working for this company now. I now work an area meant for 4 people due to taking over for employees previously laid off. Did I get a raise that I earned this year? Nope. But am I expected to work overtime to manage my four AORs? Yep.

Since VH and her EC put us in this situation, most would agree they need to step down. BOD get off your butts and do your job!

Oil is not going anywhere soon and if you don’t understand our industry please leave. We will overtime transition to cleaner fuels but it’s a huge long lead time transition.

Way easier because you don’t have to physically track them down and decide whose office and monitors to look at to collaborate on the deliverable. Now that sounds many of us have been forced to learn the tools, you can immediately assemble the working team via texts and IM’s and all look at the docs together with everyone on their own monitors.

Now as far as WFH is concerned. How has it been working for assembling a team with a 5 minute lead time to tackle a crisis situation for an executive during working hours?

Young people in chemical, mechanical, or electrical engineering will be safe. Their skills are not focused on the oil industry and the skill base in these fields are transferrable to other industries.

Oil is dead in the next four years, so much of this talk does not matter anymore. If 50% of us work for oil companies in 2024 it would surprise me. The writing is on the wall and it is time for you younger folks to transition to another industry. I would hate to be a young degreed person starting out in this business now. You worked hard in school and will not even be able to apply it to work in some cases. It is just a shame to so our industry destroyed.

You will never have the WFH option in an oil company. That is just the way it is. Better get that car prepared again for the commute.

I think the Anti-WFH are not working at OXY. Those s—ers are just jealous about our flexible working environment

About that WFH thing. That has to go as soon as it is semi-safe to go back. WFH may be ok for some companies but it is ruining OXY.

I am thankful for my job and Oxy allowing us WFH. no need raise or praise during these difficulties times... but... Two VPs of land, Two VPs of Support, VG, Lowe, and others will be noticed after VH trial time

OP: To your headline point about the EC having to go...

You are assuming that there are competent executives waiting in the wings, who are chomping at the bit to replace the current EC.
That assumption may not be accurate... They couldn't pay me enough to try and dig out from the hole the Alabaman Whale put this company in.

"I think most employees hate working for this company"

That statement isn't even close to being true. Most of my coworkers, even those that are temporarily taking on more responsibility, are thankful to to be here. I have friends laid off from other companies that would LOVE to have your job right now.

I agree that VH needs to resign, but not because you're working OT.

Would you rather be laid off with 3 months pay and benefits during this time. As they say they have you by your bells if you know what I mean. If things ever pick up maybe jobs will to. We are losing whole companies with these mergers and acquisitions so a lot less oilfield jobs out there in the future.
