Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

Be honest

If you didn't work here and wanted to buy a book or three, where would you shop? Would you go online (most likely Amazon) where everything is one place and you get major discounts in addition to free shipping? Would you visit an independent bookstore where everybody lives books and can give you good recommendations if you need them? Or would you come to BN which is...well we all know what it's like right now?

I have bumped into former customers on the street and told them, told my neighbors, told people at Starbucks etc. to boycott B&N as they don’t treat employees right, laid off 50% or more of employees and are no longer properly cleaning the stores. I have spoken to national media as have others. I’m just waiting for B&N’s demise. I should have not lost my job when I was a top bookseller.

Won’t spend any money at BN. I supported them, when they supported me.my family now buys other gift cards throughout the year. We are all readers. $50 gift cards on birthdays. More on Christmas.

Amazon, each and every time! They have amazing deals on all of their books. I bought the physical copies of the Harry Potter and Twilight series this year. At least 40% off and with my credit card reward points, the discount is 60%. Every week I buy a Kindle book from their Book Bub website that is usually $2.99 instead of $10.99. I use my local library to download ebooks and audiobooks. The library is the best place to get Best Sellers and the high brow literary titles. 61All for free! I used to spend a thousand dollars a year at BN when I worked there.Ever since they closed my store, I haven't spent a dime at BN. No one I know shops at BN. When I mentioned I used to work there, my co-workers looked surprised and asked if BN was still in business since 4 BN stores have closed in my city.I smiled and replied "Not for long".

When I worked at Barnes & Noble I spend on average $200 a month on box and $100 on food. Since being laid off, I have re-discovered the library through the Libby app. In addition I will buy hard covers from Amazon in my paper box from a independent bookstore. I’ve come to the conclusion there’s no need to buy so many books anymore. I certainly won’t give Barnes & Noble company anymore my money.

Take the number of people they laid off 2 years ago . 4-5 in each of 640 Stores. ( a lot more than the 1,800 they said) you think they , or their friends, or their families shop at Barnes ? The people let go during this pandemic ? That’s a lot of lost revenue!

I have an Amazon credit card and besides some books being HALF the price of what B&N charges,
I get money back with my purchases.
I might go into B&N to browse, but you'd have to be a fool to buy there!
Employees can't even afford to buy at their own stores anymore, how sick is that?

RIP B&N

My daughter worked for Barnes and Noble for 12 years. I had a membership and bought all my books and presents there.!She was let go 2 years ago in their purge. Since then I order my books on Amazon ( much cheaper than Barnes) and when I want to browse in book aisles I will travel about 21 miles to Books A Million ( I purchased their membership) I won’t support Barnes and Noble anymore. No one in my family does anymore. Used to spend a lot of money there for birthdays, Christmas, etc.
