Thread regarding Hitachi Vantara layoffs

Hitachi is going nowhere fast

https://www.svvoice.com/hitachi-vantara-finds-new-home-just-down-the-road/

What a waste of money. This is usually how it ends. HV spent millions of dollars on small unprofitable cloud companies through the years. Melded with Hitachi Consulting in January (another top heavy company with no revenue). Now they sign a lease for a big downtown building that can house 1,000 employees which they will not be able to use.

The company has only one direction and that’s the one going DOWN.

Really sorry to hear that. It's an awful time to be out of work. Hopefully those affected got a decent severance package and will find something soon.

My team saw about a 15% cut, despite being one of the areas GK said we were skating toward to get ahead of the puck or however that goes.

I can easily believe that teams less aligned toward that "vision" might experience cuts on the order of what have been mentioned here.

I'm not sure I believe a lot of what I've seen posted here. People pulling out things from random articles from months ago and citing huge lay-off numbers. I'm beginning to think it's all nonsense - which if true is a pretty sh*tty thing to do to people concerned for their jobs.

The link is old news (POSTED 04:51 PM, May 22, 2019).
pulling out of the new building? Signs are coming down? Probably will try to sublet ?
I find that hard to believe.

Are we? Perhaps it'll be announced at the Town Hall tomorrow.

By "now" you mean over a year ago? This article isn't even close to recent. I'm not a fan of how this company is handling their business, in particular their personnel, but this seems disingenuous at best.

Hmm. The quoting of yet another, old, "news" report from someone seemingly obsessed with the performance, or otherwise, of the company.

I had to cringe, years ago, when they announced that HQ would be in Santa Clara. The business climate and living conditions in CA were already in massive decline at that point. A business that wants to be flexible and make money does not open up shop in CA where everything costs way more than anywhere else and you're taxed and regulated to death. That's insane. Waltham, CO, or Orlando would have been much more sensible. The executives that made that decision, however, are already long gone I'm sure.
