Changes in GOM organization weakening safety and controls? Time will tell, but if something bad happens management may have criminal liability.

Maybe you don’t know the real truth behind Oxy turning down the contract renewal in Qatar.

Death by a thousand paper cuts. If Oxy did any due dilegence or planned to keep GOM when buying APC, they might have put a competent management team in place. Real story is they wanted to get rid of the Qatari mgmt team after blowing that contract renewal so the put them in the BU they planned to sell. I wonder if VH and KD are having 2nd thoughts about turning down Total’s offer?

OXY has zero experience in the GOM. OXY's engineers are third tier, or mediocre at best, and this is a huge mistake moving OXY staff to GOM. Let's pray we dont cause accidents and someone gets hurt.

Great opportunity for retired oil company professionals to run training programs as outside consultants. The experienced people can give back to the industry and make some money too.

Here’s the problem. There’s enough of us left that we know how to look out for each other and enough compliance people who know the rules and the reason behind the rules. If the managers and leaders don’t know what we do and why we do it it’s ok, we can still look out for each other for a while. But we are also slowly leaving one by one. Lots of hiring starting to happen in the GOM. Hess and others see this opportunity to poach. Eventually the tables will turn and new people in the org will be looking to management and leaders for coaching and understanding. Then it will be the blind leading the blind.

The illiterate poster below is also correct. BP also had/has its problems as well. APC did too.

AK was president in bahrain and oxy got the boot from tanweer, after this "success" he got appointed as qatar president , where he didnt do much other than kiss the lazy Qataris a– all day in spite of that oxy also got the boot from qatari goverment, hence after this "success" got appointed to GOM as part of all the british-scotish mafia sponsored by KD.
I wonder how long GOM will last until BSEE gives oxy the boot

Regardless of track record. Current actions and disregard for risk is what is facing GOM now.

Most operators have some sort of track record. Its also why pay is higher in this industry because of the risk / reward. The real question is if Oxy is blantly disregarding experienced deepwater knowledgeable LAPC people with the decisions of inexperienced LOXY execs with a need to prove that they can do it cheaper to keep VH off their sacks.

PA is part of the track record of Oxy, @gqn+17vY9fdQ. One incident is one incident, but Oxy has built a track record of irresponsible incompetency, repeated failures in both safety and business and a generally disgraceful level of ineptitude that isn't rivaled anywhere. If Oxy has learned so much, why are their staff and company in such train wreck of a position?? Don't answer, I already know what Oxy and its staff are from first hand experience and facts.

Need to stop rubbing PA in their face. The entire industry has learned and grown from that event and I’m sure those more closely involved have evolved even more than the rest of us as a result of it. More importantly, bringing up PA takes away focus from the bigger reality that shallow water North Sea 1980’s and shallow Qatar is their only offshore experience and quite irrelevant to Deepwater GOM.

KD and AK experience includes Piper Alpha and you know how that turned out.

Oxy is banking on KD and AK offshore experience. been a while since those been on a platform! sadly Oxy wouldn’t even know who to hire because they don’t know how to operate GoM

Former GOM LAPC here. These are the things that worried us in Aug 2019. Changes that put lives at risk is where most are drawing the line and we might see some real blow back soon. Risk tolerance is one thing but some of these changes are ignoring risk all together and passing it off vs addressing it. It starts small ... let's hope we can keep it safe for all of our co-workers and contractors.
