Severance Pay in Installments

This can't be! Installment payments..,what in the world is going on? It's as if they told us this in advance but I never heard this from the company until now. My take is that they should just pay us all of our severance and let move on.

Where did you hear this from? I haven't received any communication from the company since I was given the severance option and sent in my waiver. Did they have an ETA on when payments would start even if it's weekly?

Its normal for them to pay you out on a weekly basis. Relax

Not just JC Penney. More companies are paying severance as continued pay for a period of time instead of a lump sum. You end up paying extra taxes when it is a lump sum, but the companies are only doing it because of cash flow issues.
