401K Match

I came here looking for information about Mattel. It looks like a lot of you don't have very many good things to say. Covid has hit my family hard economically, and I need a job....even if it is just for a while. My question is what is positive about Mattel? What is positive about their benefits? Specifically, is there a 401K match?

A lot of the benefits offered years ago that used to make the employees want to vote for mattel as a top 500 company are long gone. I don’t know what kind of smoke yawn is blowing up investors backsides about barbie but after all these years the old girl still doesn’t know how to stand up on her own. this was an amazing place to work. I’m talking rainbows and unicorns kind of place. now? i feel like a troll in a cave from lord of the rings.

401k match is REALLY Good compared to most companies where you'll only get 3% match. What's the catch? Lower salaries?

Just announced 401 matching is back. I don’t know when it starts.
Bonuses are 1 free paycheck for most of us. Much higher if your a manager and goes up more from there.
If you do what your told you’ll be fine, it’s a job. If you want to be creative keep looking.

1 1/2 days are for El Segundo ONLY not the peons at the distribution centers.
2 “Unlimited Vacation” applies to Supervisors, Managers, Directors and any other person that doesn't work in the bowels of the company. You need to know how to coordinate a circle jerk to get one of those positions. Good luck!
3 Company doesn't match any 401k contributions. This may require dipping into big wig bonuses, laying off our VERY top heavy Management roles or just plain old scaling back your department to one person. Nothing like a tried and true layoff to scare everyone back into submission!
4 Even if it’s for a “little while”, you're better off getting a seasonal job hauling carts at Walmart. Seriously.

Positives:
1 I am positive that any employee that states this is a good place to work is mental, complacent and has no self esteem.
2 You get to enthusiastically tell people your work for Mattel.
Always remember, you are more than just a number and RUN AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!

Auto-match was removed earlier this year.

Benefits were pretty good a couple years ago. I doubt too many changes have occurred since (aside from the loss of 1/2 day Fridays and the new "unlimited time off" to eliminate a payout when you leave).

If memory serves, there was an automatic 6% put into your 401k whether you contributed or not, and then a 50% company match on your contributions up to 6%, with a 3 year vesting schedule.

Depending on your level, there were generous stock grants and yearly bonuses as well.

No complaints on the medical/dental/vision insurance. They even had a legal benefit you could participate in for free simple legal services like estate planning, getting out of speeding tickets, etc.

It's a great place to work if you can avoid the politics. The biggest problem is that it rewards mediocrity, which is why you have the leadership from the VP level and up that you do. The benefits at VP level balloon so much that the focus for those guys becomes "how long can I hold onto this job?" vs. "how can I make a difference?" or "how can I innovate?" You can't fault them for it. They want to provide for their families too. It's the system that's f'd up.
