Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

What to believe?

After media reports of possible merger with Exxon, they are now writing about its impracticability. I am skeptical about this issue, but in these uncertain times it seems possible that anything can happen.

Here is an article I just read: https://seekingalpha.com/article/4378965-merger-chevron-and-exxon-mobil-forget

Chevron could gain from XOM discipline, technical competence and strict management with accountability. XOM would gain, uh, Chevron’s key assets which they are already partners in ABU, TCO plus those they know like Permian and W Africa. They would sell GOM.

Regulators only care about downstream, which XOM could sell or just shut down.

Everything is possible, and if this happens, XOM will eat CVX cookies anytime. CVX technical competencies are WAY SUBPAR compared to them.

Won't happen. Fed would nix it right away as monopolistic. Add to that, it wouldn't work - the companies have diametrically opposite cultures and management styles.

  • but you know right now San Ramon is fuming that Permian jewel Concho is going to get bought by ConocoPhilips...

Not gonna happen, too much scrutiny and very different cultures. Also both companies are sinking one slower than the other, merger will make them both fail faster, it is best to merge with another type of energy company to shift from fossile fuel and have a mix of clean energy on the portfolio.
