Are you planning on staying long-term?
I envisioned myself as a lifer, but as an employee in the Parks & Resorts segment it's hard to envision a successful path the next couple of years. Especially in Orlando, where so much of the economy is dependent on tourism.
I am of course grateful to have my job, but unfortunately the layoffs affected my partner and it seems like it's time to go. Curious to know if anyone else is in the same boat.
i know DTCI will have layoffs soon.
I'm definitely a lifer if it's in my control. This pandemic is nothing we could have predicted. Both film and parks are getting hit the hardest.
It's worth noting that a few years ago when the giant reorg happened, it was stated that DTCI would be the company's focus moving forward. They basically reinstated that recently. That said, Disney also said they wouldn't make a profit for the first few years of Disney+, which to me says that layoffs were totally possible. Did the pandemic change that? I don't know.
But remember that: the golden child is now Disney+. Get yourself into DTCI.
This post hurts my heart, because I went through the same crisis after surviving the 2009 layoffs. I tried to stick it out, but my heart wasn't in it anymore and I moved on within six months. Found something great and learned that there is life after Disney.
It's tough, because you really are part of a huge family, but at the end, I was so shattered when my co-workers were walked that something was gone. Loved my time there and reference it frequently, but my career and my life turned out pretty darned good anyway. Ultimately, WDW is about selling an emotional experience to Guests and Cast Members, and sometimes, that can get kind of tricky.

I’ve been furloughed for six months now. Haven’t been let go yet, but I feel like even in the small chance they do bring me back soon, the working relationship between me and my department has changed forever. Whatever goodwill that existed before has been completely destroyed. I’m looking into things and finding a new job. May end leaving Orlando forever
