Thread regarding Pratt and Whitney layoffs

You know why they're prolonging this?

They are trying to break us, get us to quit on our own. As many as they can. This anticipation is unhealthy and they know it. And the more of us decide to leave, well, that's more money they don't have to spend on severance. Well, I'll be damned if I'm going to give them the satisfaction!

I agree. I won’t quit now but the moment markets pick up if I am not canned, I am leaving. The way they treated us was disrespectful and I am not gonna wait for the next time.

I heard it will be this Thursday. But again hear say. It is also very hard to find a job right now, anywhere, so banking on people leaving is tough when the economy is so bad.

They are prolonging this because they are a bunch indecisive, incompetent id–ts! GE did this like 7 months ago, but the big bosses here at Pratt still can’t make up their mind and keep going back and forth! Meanwhile we all agonize and fret for weeks after it was announced wondering when the ax is coming down!

I don't know, there isn't really anywhere to go, and most people (along with Raytheon) know that. Maybe in other [non-recessive] times I'd be more inclined to jump on this "[company] bad" train, but I don't think this theory holds any water right now.

The more they delay the layoffs, the more salaries they have to pay in the mean time. I don't think the math works out that they'd actually be saving money overall by prolonging the layoffs. You can't tell me that paying all of these salaries for an extra month in the hopes that some small amount will get fed up and jump ship is less expensive than just getting it over with earlier.

I don't know why they're prolonging it. I honestly think you can break it down to uncertainty about the market/economy and finalizing the numbers. Hell, it could have something to do with waiting to see who gets elected (not trying to make this political, don't @ me). Honestly, at the end of the day, I'm glad it's been prolonged, because it's just more time that I'm getting paid and can set aside more money in the case that I'm one of the people to go.

Funny you mention that, I was thinking the same thing. Many employees actively looking for jobs and applying and if a job offer comes their way they are out.
Less money PW is spending on severance
