Thread regarding Pratt and Whitney layoffs

Operations/Manufacturing

Just curious if anyone knows whats going on with salaried operations and manufacturing employees from other mod centers. As someone who has been coming in every day during the pandemic, I can tell you we haven't seen of or heard of a single person in HSMC who has been laid off yet, and I'm hearing the same from colleagues at other locations as well. We've lost people but all were voluntary separations. It's a bit strange that the hourly workforce from what I understand is excluded from layoffs, but those of us supporting manufacturing of hardware throughout the pandemic are as scared as anyone else. We are considered white collar employees but we really are "light-blue" employees.

Hourly union member here from HSMC-N. We are not exempt. The company has to notify our union 60 days ahead of time and layoffs are done strictly by seniority. No layoffs for sure in the north. We have so much work it's ridiculous. We have also taken in over 50 mechanics that worked on the assembly line in Middletown. They were going to lose their jobs so they were surplus-to-need to different positions in EH...

The hourly workforce is not excluded from layoffs - you may just not see them at the same time as salaried layoffs.

the bottom line is there is not enough work to support current number of whatever employees

It just seems surprising to me that with all the engines being canceled, pushed out and aftermarket inductions way down that we don’t have lot of hourly folks with not a lot to do right now.
I’ve worked at Pratt a while now and it seems hard to believe that they will carry these jobs for 6 months, a year or two years or more until things get back to “normal”.

This may be local to only Connecticut but it was mentioned after that Bloomberg article I think by the governor saying specifically that mostly white collar workers will be affected. I'm sure they won't avoid it completely of course. It may also be different for the non-union shops.

I can’t possibly imagine hourly people will not experience any layoffs.

Zero word in west palm. And we never had one day off for covid. It was pretty sketchy in the beginning. They should give us some sort of recognition. As they work from home.

Where did you hear that hourly workers are excluded from the layoffs?

operations employee from EH here, also haven't heard of anyone who has been laid off yet here aside from a few contractors. we share your concern though. we've had several layers of management come in to thank the hourlies who have been coming in as essential workers, and only radio silence for the salaried essential workers
