Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Is going into the insurance business a good move?

I just read an opinion from a research analyst who believes launching Walmart Insurance Services could distinguish us from competitors and that the company will be successful in merging all aspects of retail.
Could be, but I’m not sure if such diversity and moving beyond core retail business could bring us to a better future. I hope I’m wrong because it has opened a significant number of new jobs, but it sounds like a future debacle. Any thoughts?

They’ve lost touch with reality! They don’t know their customers. Horrible decision making. Burning through money! They act like they are NASA going into space. They have made something simple into a nightmare. Keep customers, workers happy and keep it stocked. People over scanning waste of time. Rotating schedules and shifts stupid! People have lives outside that crazy company.

Excellent question. I worked at the HO for 10 years. I had an assistant store manager on my team that changed career paths and got into IT. He asked that same question when WM was buying all these companies and getting away from their core business which was suffering due to the competition. Leadership, as expected, dodged the question.

WM can't compete with Amazon and are slowly losing business to other competitors out there. So they have to expand their grasp as they continue to lose focus on their core business as mentioned above.

They need to focus on their retail business and accept second place behind Amazon. WM fell asleep at the wheel and allowed Amazon to pass them. WM feels like they have to become like Amazon and expand into everything they can.
