H1b workers can no longer undercut US worker wages. H1b reduced by 1/3

Cisco being ground zero for H1-B fraud, this is good news. The company started sinking after the H1-Bs flocked there to loot the company. Managers making millions via their off the books deals with Infosys, Wipro, etc.
@1aaj+17is2ijN you actually read the full post, or just get triggered by the first sentence? I clearly state that the issue sits way deeper than H1B and outsourcing is happening regardless, except with H1B money at least stays here. I know it's tough, my 5 year old cousin has this issue too, but try reading and doing a bit of critical thinking before speaking.
Lmfao. Love how these people are praising Trump and his "amazing" America first action.
Said the clueless guy who will lose his job to someone soon and doesn’t even realize it.
These jobs will go to different country now. Sj tac closed and these roles are going to Mexico.
When they opened the Bangalore site in India, John Chambers was very clear in. company meeting that as long as it cost so much money to hire people in the USA, Cisco would invest in and increase the size of thr India site.
So who is really surprised about how Cisco has been managing H1B headcount, etc?
Lmfao. Love how these people are praising Trump and his "amazing" America first action. This half assed attempt to appease the base just leaves us with jobs being outsourced. You think these companies wanna pay you 100k when they can pay 30k in India? Prime capitalism baby. Now jobs leave the US, no taxes from H1B salaries, no people living here and putting money back into our economy. Instead the jobs, money, and people move offshore, never to return. H1B really messed with individuals and "took jobs from qualified citizens", but these large corps didn't want to hire citizens anyway. H1B at least gave them a reason to keep jobs in the US. K–ling H1B makes it even worse for the nation as a whole unless there are incentives for actually keeping the jobs here (hint there are none).
Very positive move for US workers
I am OK with immigration in general, both driven by migrations (wars, famine, collapsed states) and skills (e.g., H1B).
I am not ok with all immigration spots going to two or three regions, nations or ethnic groups. It creates tensions and it's counterproductive.
Just spread it up and it'll be smooth and seamless...
Yeah, the high level idea of “get H1Bs back to their original purpose” (hiring high skill employees in sectors with labour shortages in America) makes a lot of sense, and I say this as a major Trump hater. It’s a good idea. But some of the implementation details really s—, and this is a key one. It’s incredibly common for outstanding employees in technical fields to come from non-traditional backgrounds.
Screwing up details like this could be simple incompetence - the Trump administration is quite bad when it comes to putting “yes men” with little relevant experience in key decision making positions. Or it could be malice - a strongly anti-immigrant policy disguised as something less anti-immigrant. I can easily see it being either one.
Not a fan of this administration but this is a good move. Too much fraud and damage to american workers
Credit where credit is due, this is a good move. The H1B program has been abused for a long time. It sounds like these changes should help make it too expensive for the fraudulent abuse to continue.
Overall, I really support these changes.
However, this piece really struck me as a big mistake:
"Under the changes, an applicant must have a college degree in the specific field in which he or she is looking to work. A software developer, for example, wouldn’t be awarded an H-1B visa if that person has a degree in electrical engineering."
Some of the best software engineers I know are graduate degree holders from neuroscience, biophysics, EE, and more. This might be a distinction that is only relevant in software engineering, but my intuition is that other fields will feel the sting of this decision.
Guys - keep this thread clean and without insults.
Otherwise the zelot admi will nuke the entire thread.
