Thread regarding Nordstrom layoffs

H1-Bs at Nordstrom

What is the situation for H1-B contractors at Nordstrom these days? With jobs scarce in this recession, have you sent them all home? I know that I would be much more comfortable shopping at Nordstrom if I knew for sure that real Americans were maintaining the back-office applications and critical data.

I’m actually looking into a part-time job in the stores, just so I can see the Flash reports on a POS for the Canada store comps.

There are 59 Seattle Technology jobs posted at the Nordstrom career page atm. The hiring language in these posts is so corny, though, looking for people who are not only “passionate” but actually “obsessed with customer service” or some facet of data science.

It’s a job, guys. It’s not some special calling, what you do pays the bills but is otherwise mundane and unexceptional.

It’s just a job, at a company that could be bankrupt by Purim.

Again, no one wept for Stein Mart.

Same in my dept, ~80% laid off, and work moved to Eastern Europe. They should outsource the online stuff - it’s cheaper to get this done overseas.

90% of my group was laid off and the extra work was sent to India.
