Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Customers boycotting

Idk why now, but in the past 48 hours our customers have gotten up in arms about other customers not wearing masks. They completely blame us for not enforcing the mask rule. When I tell them what the company tells me to say and that we are not the police and we can only request the people wear masks, they just get even more upset and frustrated.

They said that’s its a cowardly stance on the part of our company. But so many of them have complained, that several of them, our regulars, have come up to me and others in the store and said that they are going to start boycotting Lowes until we start enforcing the mask rule. That if Walmart and grocery stores can do it, so can we.

Well, our SM and ASMs don’t seem to care, esp since a lot of them are the ones who aren’t wearing masks. Our customer count has plummeted in the past two days. The customers who complained aren’t the usual people that just complain just to do it, these are our very professional very serious customers. They said they’ve been upset the entire time but now they are sick of Lowes taking such a backseat to the whole thing and they’re over it. One very nice man even took out his Lowe’s credit card out, asked for a pair of scissors, and cut it up. He said he was done with it. He said he really liked all of us, but he had to do what’s right. That was kind of a shock. He’s a very nice customer, and he was really upset.

I guess I have been fortunate that both the county I live in and the adjoining county I work in have been under mandatory mask policy for most of the pandemic. Both are hot spots with high incident rates and deaths. As such I would say better than 95% of our customers wear the masks. I do feel sorry for others that work in other areas of the country where mask adherence is far lower. I believe the statistic is that it is estimated that less than 50% of the USA wears masks.

One would have hoped that now that POTUS and the first lady and many in their inner circle have contracted the virus that there would be some sort of awakening by the far right that this is in fact real and that no one is safe. The simple truth is that the virus requires a host in order to survive and does not last long in the environment without one. If everyone would just s— it up for just a short period of time and follow the guidelines put forth by the CDC and World Health organization this pandemic would most likely all be behind us by now.

Yet we as a country continue to have this conversation day after day, week after week, month after month, and soon to be year after year. The death toll continues to rise every day, the economy continues to suffer and none of us are any better for it. The simple fact that the USA has less than 5% of the global population and yet more than 20% of the total global COVID deaths should tell you that something is fundamentally wrong here. The fact that COVID 19 is now the 3rd leading cause of death (behind heart disease and cancer) in this country should drive the point home even further yet we continue to have this conversation. Very unfortunate that we as a country can't make even a truly minor short term personal sacrifice for the greater good of the country. Sadly I hold out little hope at this point that much will change in this country and this is destin to drag on and on and we as a nation all continue to loose when that happens. And sadly far too many of our fellow Americans will pay the ultimate price, as many already have, by loosing their lives.

Masks don't work. Whatever germs out there seeps through. It's only to protect you from snots spilling all over you is someone sneezes right at your face. If it's in the air, no masks will protect you. It's just being worn because the government tells us to. Like if the building is on fire, is the mask going to protect you from smoke inhalation? Hell no.

If most everyone is wearing a mask, the few that aren't shouldn't be a problem. People are losing their ever-loving minds over this...and we as a nation are losing our freedoms. The establishment you are entering should be free to ask you to wear a mask...and you should be free to essentially say 'no' by not wearing one. You don't have to get close to anyone, or breathe on them or cough in their direction. Just go in, do what you need to do, and leave. It's just not that hard. I have added supplements to my daily intake and done my best to stay healthy. Meanwhile, for all these months, I have waited on people all day, every day. I just don't think this is what we're being told that it is. Thank God, the few I know who've contracted it have had basic flu that lasted a bit longer than usual and that's it. Just don't throw the baby out with the bathwater, ok!!?!

Customers in my store have been yelling at cashiers/employees for not wearing masks properly. One customer refused to come into GC because we only had 1 gate open, used both entrance & exit, and 2 cashier lines running. Best you could do was maybe a 1ft social distancing to come in.
HD & Menards in my area is very strict and early set the tone by having Security Guard right inside the entrances. I’m a Lowe’s employee but do majority of my shopping at Menards since they have a zero tolerance for the maskless.
