Thread regarding Pratt and Whitney layoffs

Never seen anything handled so horribly anywhere

Not even general information or general reassurance, zero information not even official confirmation to us of what was released to the press total silence. How many valuable employees will jump ship in the future as opportunities become available ? It is what its. if you have to make cuts it is understandable. BUT how you handle them is a different story. And how you take care of the people that made you billions when you let them go is another story. Tough times come and go but how you handle them makes all the difference in the world. You are loseing the respect and trust of all your employees and that can last a long time.

Be careful, by the information you are giving. For example I can name the guy whose wife is a physician. And it’s been more like 14 years of working remotely.

I have colleagues who work for GE Aerospace. They handled their layoffs earlier this year with much much much more grace and dignity than Pratt has. As someone who's relatively new to the company, I am extremely disappointed in its culture. How the managers are handling this really illustrates the c-appy culture they've brought with them.

My wife and I, who both work have had to uproot and move for work 3 times. This maybe our 4th. I was hoping we were done.

Then you won't be able to find employment equivalent to what you have now.

That said, you have it better than most of us with a spouse who's earning an income. Folks like myself who either live alone or are the sole income earners aren't so fortunate.

You missed the point. We CAN'T move.

I never said moving would be easy.

But if you expect to find employment equivalent to what you have now, that's the only option.

Take it from someone who's been actively applying to jobs out of state since September 2019. No reputable employer is going to consider you when they have a ton of local candidates to choose from (especially post-COVID).

In hindsight, I wish I had known this before accepting employment with P&W, or at least known how impossible it would be to transfer across business units to more desirable locations.

My spouse is a physician in a small town. I've been a remote worker for a decade. Moving isn't an option for everyone.

Outside the industry.

Unfortunately, given the locations of P&W's facilities, you're going to have to move to a different city/state.

To other companies. even other industries... not Pratt at any cost, if I am not on the list I would still look for other jobs...

Jump ship to where, exactly? The industry has been destroyed.

Actually the cuts are not understandable after the big performance bonuses were handed out earlier this year (after Covid hit) in the face of such financial adversity.
