Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

In Regard to the 'Severance' option in the Cap-Overnight Restructure.......

As one of the associates who formerly worked Cap 2, and decided to go with the severance option as opposed to moving overnight, alot of information regarding how, much & when an associate is given feels.............kept in the dark.

Whenever I asked my manager things like "how much severance is given," or "how is it calculated for hourly as opposed to salaried workers" & "when I should get that amount", the only answer I could be given is: 'We don't do that; home office takes care of it'. It went like that, for weeks until the final day of work, in which I was told to write a letter confirming my leave, and "Home Office" would take care of the rest.

And, while I do feel my managers are right on a technical level (in that Home Office is the one to calculate & deliver severance), I do feel that giving such an option, in response to what is a drastic change that undermines a great hand of people, makes it so nebulous and, frankly, unfair to anyone who refuses to play along.

And now, when for weeks I've actively sought employment, and in a dire state of financial distress, I'm told only after pressing my manager a mere day ago, that my severance will not come until the end of the fiscal quarter.

In other words: End of January, of next year.

Now, so much about severance is either unknown or obscured, that I don't even know if this is true or not. A many deal about this 'option' wasn't given crucial information for the people most in need of it. Even when I asked for Home Office's number, I was told they wouldn't talk with me, even if I was an associate.

All that can be asked is, if there is anyone with solid & genuine information about, please post it here, to give me and others, some much needed clarity, and hope.

Yes, I was told about the severance calculator on the Wire page, and while there are many factors that kept changing as to what determined the total severance, I did make a rough estimation.

But it's not being given an Exact estimation that I have a quarrel with here, it's that the 'time' in which the severance is given to the unemployed, combined with the fact that this isn't given to you upfront, that there's an issue with here.

I did find that calculator, & while tedious that it's a manual process needing to be done by the associate, I at the very least was able to figure out a 'range' of what I'm owed. There was no knowledge posted or said about it coming at the end of the fiscal quarter.

In brief, Walmart needs to be more direct with it's employees about every much-needed aspect of unemployment that a leaving associate needs to know.

I am also taking the severance package. There is a severance calculator on the wire. It is basically one weeks pay for every year you have worked. The amount of hours will be based on the average hours you have worked in the last 12 weeks. Example: average hours worked in the 12 weeks prior to your termination date is 40 hours and you have worked for 20 years and your pay rate is $20 . $20 X40 =800 $800 X 20 =$16000 minus taxes. Also, it could be prorated if you have taken any LOA during the years you have worked. Hope this helps.
