Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Does anyone really know the truth about what’s going to happen this month and does anyone know when it’s going to happen?

How the store can go with out a Operations/visual? simple.... if the store goes dark into a fullfillment.. all those little jobs like pricing , sticking up dummies , floor moves or what ever waste of time they make you do wont mean a thing .. ifs its a warehouse.. you just need shelfs and cut the rest of the fat.. Like you Mr Ovs...

First I’d like to say as former MTM and current OVM I can assure you I don’t sit in my office as some people mentioned in their comments. Some days I can’t even sit down for lunch. My store had 3 MTM’s, 1 Visual Manager and 1 Operator. We went down to 2 OVM’s. The expectations haven’t changed and 2 OVM’s are still expected to do the jobs of 5 people. I don’t see how a store could possibly do without this role. I can’t see CX Managers pushing freight, floor moves, pricing, signing, RTV’s, cycle counts, bops and fulfillment and all the other stuff that we do. They can barely get the floor recovered and ready for business the next day. As for the CX Director, I think that will go as most stores that have them will not do the volume needed to warrant them. I guess we shall see come February.

So its basically JG and a 14 year old stock person in every third store...

So if ovm is getting cut. A lot of them was Lp so if the Lp team is it’s own thing and has a full staff where is ovm going ? If it’s a one person running the shoe I’m pretty sure it will be a massive pay cut to do that job . It make more sense to get the customer service manager to delegate the task. Plus don’t the ovm just sit in a office all day doing mostly nothing ?

I wasn’t implying the poster was giving fake news. I was addressing the poster who asked for “proof” from the portal. No matter what year it is, they never put detailed information about job elimination plans or restructuring information/plans on the portal. After all is said and done, the. They will put what the new structure is going to be. That’s what I was answering. Detailed info like this post describes is done via conference calls, never in writing on the portal.

So true! This information would not be on the portal. Many people found out about the cuts in July from this site. The only time the changes were posted on the portal was when the structure was changed and there was a page for transition and employees who were cut.

I have seen Macy's create new positions and cut them a year later. so if this will save them money, then they will cut it. Macy's wants people who will do more and for less money. Believe me, if you can get out, get out!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am too old, close to retirement and have been there too long and I have the scars to prove it from being shuffled around. I have a dozen of friends that I know that I met from working at Macy's . They were all products of job elimination. I am the only one still working there. So again, GET OUT!!!!

I think people are taking the post very wrong. The poster said changes in 2021 so there is nothing on the portal now but when the changes happen it will be like that. I think poster made a point of being optimistic.

They have never ever posted this type of information on the portal!!! I was an AST supervisor and I used to look every year in January for what could be coming. Never found a thing I got much more info coming to this site. Lol

OVM won't go away. The failure of putting AP on the Store Managers plate will become very evident soon and it will be moved to the OVM job, a lot of them used to be OAPM's and it was ridiculously stupid to try to put it on the Store Managers. So OavM may get a title change but will have a while lot more to do.l..tbe job will stay in pretty much the same format. Move Visual to the Store Manager, it's a better fit for sure.

The poster just said what we heard as well. It is in my opinion correct. Director levels are of no use anymore and those positions are chipping away the money, just like you have no business from 7pm to 10pm. These are all your extra expenses.
I hope macys would realize soon how to save money and go off price.

The poster was very clear and I agree with him on many things that the company is getting rid of many positions.
I am just amazed at people are replied who MBA is and CXM is. If you work at macys and don’t know these managers than yes, Macys is not doing things right.
MBA is your manager of business administration who previously were AST supervisors but MBA is now with more responsibilities and ofcource when you give them $$$ the title changes and responsibilities gets bigger.
Store managers are never going away according to what I understand from the post.
CXM is your customer experience manager previously called sales manager.
If your customer experience manager didn’t tell you that their title changes and what areas of responsibilities they have. I think your store is not in a good shape in communicating all these informations.
Also your store manager would be a less leader more leader of the office where they sit and have calls all day and do not communicate anything to people.

Wow, so many incorrect facts and nothing more than conjecture in this poorly written posting. It looks like the original poster used to work for the company and doesn't any longer, sounds like sour grapes. Divisional Visual are not Directors, they're Senior Managers. So yes, the Director position is going away, since the position was eliminated earlier this year.

OVM's are the last bastion of three critical areas of expertise and will not be eliminated next year or anywhere in the near future. These are our best mid level executives at store level and do the majority of the work while leading the support team. CSX Managers do not have the experience or talent necessary to step into an OVM role and be successful in most cases.

The two location dark store test is a cost benefit analysis being run through the fourth quarter to measure the savings and effectiveness of using fulfillment to liquidate inventory in closing locations in place of using a liquidation company. Both of these stores will close in Q1.

so no more OVM? and is the store manager on the cutting blocks?
what does MBA do ? is that a manager in the store?

so from what i get the OVM will be cut and the customer service /sales manager will delegate to support teams on what to do ? so are they getting rid of store managers? what is cxm?
this explains why LP became its own thing.. cause they cut the head off the snake with OVM. my take is if they keep making you change hats its time to change jobs !.. but this is apart of the 1.5 billion cuts that is a huge amount of money to cut in one year.. its being geared up to being sold off..it has to look good on paper.. those Ops/lp guys know all the dirt hence why they got them out first... wonder if they will get a package? also if their position is gone where will they go? back to LP?

MMG = Macys merchandising group (private brands)
MBA = Manager of Business Administration

What is MBA? And what is MMG? so the useless OVM is being let go? I saw that coming... when they move someone into that position as a downgrade its 100 percent that they will be let go..

I have seen macys " promote" people to higher levels only to be cut in a year.
they do this cause to fire them they can possibly et sued.. but if they cut them due to lack of biz then no lawsuit.. they will have to sign a package with no option to sue. Hence why they shuffled the deck from AP/OP to OVM... it lessens the blow of suits and maybe even gets rid of it all together.. depends on what you signed.. they are protecting them selfs.. also I notice if you got offered a package first time around or a new position you should of taken it...

you guys that been around for 20-30 years will get screwed in the end .. watch
