Options After Being Left Standing?

Hi all,
I was left standing after only 2 years as an ITC employee. I have never even been thru a PDC before this selection event. My first and only PMP ranking was a 2 from last year. My feedback from peers has been very positive. I very humbly believe that I am younger and far more technical than so many employees that were selected. Are there any avenues to inquire as to why I would be left standing as a newer employee with a more diverse and modern skillet vs so many lifers who were placed? Also happen to be caucasian and I hope that has nothing to do with it.

Options After Being Left Standing? Well, let’s see...
You can sit down or go fishing, hunting, improve on a favorite hobby, vacation to places you always wanted to go, think of more productive things, rekindle your marriage. These things are good starters.
If you’re not ready for retirement and enjoying your life, then go out and find another job. Just don’t mope around wasting your life.

Just GTFO. Chevron is a once great company that is now run by cowards and s-xual deviants.

Managers in CVX are little sh–s for sure. If you say or do something wrong by their stupid standards you're eFFed. When it comes to promotions, ranking and ROM's you will know and see the difference. These managers are like little kindergarten pricks. eF CVX, man I don't miss these are*holes.

ITC was gutted during this change. It has less to do with your skill sets and more to do with the changing model going forward. They are shifting to a model with more and more offsite support and managed services. You could try asking your selection rep for feedback, but you’ll likely not get much because that wasn’t the focus. Leverage those skills and you’ll land on your feet. I survived 2 layoffs in my first 4 years out of school. Hang in there.

I’m left standing and know it was because of retaliation due to a bully that has years of history bullying. I was set up, the mangers executed all the moves, it was me, the bully and another co worker that was left standing. Chevron excepts abusive behavior. The bully, I’m guessing threatened management and would have prevailed in legal recourse. Getting rid of all involved was the solution. I do not think the bully even knows how the managers executed the “sting” operation. They told me step by step what to do. I’m serious, even took me to lunch! I’m a excellent employee never ever had any issues with so close to retiring. I did not see this coming, the managers tricked me and another employee. I can not believe that Chevron did this. I’m in total shock as everyone else is too.
Bully’s being their “authentic self” is tolerable behavior....it’s the Chevron Way.

In general, it is most likely because you are not a minority, which is preferred, considering all of your credentials.

3 things come to mind.

If you scored a 2-. Just know you would have for sure got left standing. If you scored a 2. You have a 50/50 chance.

If you are someone who is difficult to work with, there is a chance you got left standing for that reason (although they will never tell you that)

If you got into an argument with one of the leaders, it can have career consequences (whether it was justified or not.) A few years ago I got into an argument with one of the managers who was not my direct report. However, during raise time it was brought up and I got ranked a 2 (at a minimum, I should have been a 2+ that year) and then got a whopping $700 raise that year. I was pi$$ed. I know this manager had influenced that decision but at that point there was nothing I could do.

Also, as others have said, be grateful you are getting let go now instead of down the road. The longer your here the more difficult it becomes to quit. They put the golden handcuffs on with their pension and then quit promoting you.

There’s an old saying; SH!T HAPPENS. There’s sometimes no real understandable reason to be found when seeking a logical answer. You fall into this category ALONG WITH MANY OTHERS. So don’t feel unduly targeted. Chevron has just gone through a lengthy reorganization. Lots of rapid decisions being made by superiors with little to no background information on every employee. The major objective in this huge transformation process was cutting costs, not so much conserving talent. You just were in the wrong place at the wrong time. But like the previous commenter said, you are lucky to be young and multi-talented. You will land on your feet better than most in your boat.

Two things:

  1. Be happy you’re young
  1. Be happy you got left standing, you can easily find a new job and end up better in the long run.

Good luck!
