Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Confirmed layoffs and store closings are coming!!!

Corporate is pushing to have stores closed and people laid off before holidays. There purpose is to remove fulltimers off the books before they have to match 401K in February. It will save the company millions.

Full time employees please use your personal day and sick days as soon as possible. You will not get paid out for them. The company pays out your vacation time owed. Only if you are a regular hourly or salaried. They will offer a severance package you can count on 1 week paid per year of service up to 10 weeks AT 35 HOURS not 40. It will be taxed at 37 percent. It will be in one check and that will not come until you sign the severance package.
Trying to help those over worked full time employees-start taking you personal and sick time now. The layoffs coming this time sounds like it will be done very quickly you'll be gone same day this round.

Happening sooner than you think. We were slotted for mid January close, now it’s 2 weeks away! Unemployed 2 weeks before Christmas and nobody in our store got a transfer

I can promise my store won’t make it thru the holidays as I’ll help them continue to run off customers and increase losses. Everyone get BBB for Xmas this year.

Oh so true!!! This week another store was surprised in FLORIDA that they would be closing starting first of December. Store 1010 in Tampa Area. Read the above again and look for the signs in your stores we wish we had ! Good luck to all.

Portal note about freight from closing stores.
410 stores are getting increase freight, if your store is part of that there is a good chance your store is staying open 2021. Once again landlords, leases and profitbility key to staying open nothing is set in stone. Volume code doesn't play a role.

Updated list coming out and 2nd set of stores of the 200 will be announced in the coming days. Lots of internal convos going on. 👀 Some stores saved new stores added to the cut list. Landlords, leases and profitbility key to staying open. Volume code means s#@t to staying open.
You want stability get out of retail and this long turnaround.

BB&B is a business and business is not good right now. Foot traffic is down as is online sales. If there is no improvement during the holidays, you can bet they will be laying off people and closing more stores. Nothing personal just business.

This is a sinking ship! Right now they keep pumping water out to slow it down a bit. But this is when you should be getting off and jumping on lifeboats to get to safety. If you don't you shouldn't be surprised when it sinks and you're left treading water on your own.

Going for my second/final interview with another company, this is where I get off.

They are not closing more stores before the holidays. They are trying to get the already closing stores closed up before the holidays. They were told they’d be open until after the new year but they will be done before Xmas whether they have supply or not.

They are...not there being offered. I think this is another case of the OP commenting on their own post

Layoffs are you for real ....we hardly have employees to run the building. We hire, they quit a week later. There being offered more $ elsewhere.
And then trying to even find candidates to bring on board, a joke .

I might as well chime in with my opinion. Laying people off for the sole purpose of saving on the 401K is not likely going to happen, too many other variables involved. That I believe is highly unlikely.

Wow, another prediction.

Fact is 2020 "Holidays" are nothing like we ever seen. Big box retailers already are in Black Friday mode and will be closed on Thanksgiving and some even on Black Friday. Most of these retailers are already flooding TV with commercials advertising amazing deals along with them starting already. BBB is still behind the times and they are truly expecting store traffic even though there is none now. The "Holidays: started 2 weeks ago this year. Would it surprise me if they laid off before or during the holidays, no. Do I think they will, no. However once Christmas has come and gone they still have time to lay people off and get out of matching the 401K. That I believe is highly likely.

I am not sure anyone is trusting corporate. but I DO know I do not trust random posts. Especially when they make no sense

Keep believing and trusting corporate they've been so open and clear with employees in the past. That's why we were all shocked when they closed and laid off all these store employees and managers.

"Corporate is pushing to have stores closed and people laid off before holidays."
Posted here countless of times with accuracy. This clown is a fake. Yes stores are closing. 200 to be exact. Within those stores are full time employees...
No more company wide layoffs coming. Store specific going forward. Once again you want job security get off this train. This train is passing through rebuilding town. 2021

Here's something for all of you and to muddy your rumor mill: I have an internal email address, and I have already been informed from Corporate that personal holidays are being increased for full-timers. That I can assure you.

Please people.."corporate is pushing"? to close stores? THEY ARE THE ONE WHO CLOSES THEM! Just before the holidays? Like the holidays a few weeks from now? This post is not true..and yeah OP confirmed by who? Then someone thanks you for the heads up? I believe the post is from the Troll that posts about MT. Take a look..maybe you can find what is common (but of course then they will stop doing that) in their posts

We all know about the store closings, this 401K talk issuspicious. Could be repeat postings by the same poster. Again, what good is this 401K rumor for those with NO 401K?

This is the 4th post I read on this platform talking specifically about store closing - they will happen by Christmas 2020, they are laying off just full timers because of their 401k and specifically telling us to use your personal and sick days...

Not sure if it's true but I'll use my personal and sick days just in case.

This rumor site is all over the place. I will bet you the existence of Earth that all full-timers will NOT be fired before yearend. Hell, I wish I had a 401k. Enough with these scare tactics.

This rumor smells beyond, WAY beyond belief.

The OP has not done their homework. The laws about vesting/matching can be complicated. If a company lays off more then 20percent of their workforce (in most cases) money needs to be matched. Please stop posting things that are not true

Confirmed by who?? You do realize the Holiday season is starting now? You do realize it is THEIR not there in your second sentence. I call fake news!

Which begs the question, what if you don't have a 401k? I don't think every single full-time employee will be let go, that would be the beginning of the end with nothing but "kids" in the stores, management would leave at some point with continued high turnover rates, employees who don't care, etc.

Is that why Mark says they are doing a great thing for employees by letting them carry over vacation time into 2021. Part timers cannot run the stores. They are not invested like the full timers are. They just don’t care enough.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be putting in for personal time asap. I've seen them laying off full timers in my store for the past 2 years here. Now only a handful of full timers are left and the rest are part timers. I felt like I've had a target on my back for the past year.
