Any idea when we get back to office in US with current Covid 19 surge? It would be highly unlikely at this poi t that the situation gets any better u till at least in March, does this mean another round of layoffs in the next 6 months?

4-6 weeks after Jan 20th at the earliest. Mask Man has already said what he will do.
@6ssb, Except it isn't. Come back when you have something more obviously truthful to post.
We'll wait. Woo-hoo!
@4vre - it is!!! Tee-heee, tee-ho!!!! LoL!!!!
Why are you asking here? Just mind your 3 W’s and read my weekly e-mails about how there’s a virus and maybe a vaccine. I know none of you would be washing hands or have access to the news if it weren’t for me. Now I need to get back to nepotism and publishing articles about myself, this is a waste of time.
@3wtm, Cool Story bro. It would be even cooler if true. Tee Hee!!!! Whooo Hoooo!!!! lol,
I EOI’d and took a100% remote offer outside of O&G that pays much more than my Chevron job did. No back to the office for meee-heee!! Tee-heee! So nice, home-slice!
end of Q1 2021 is best case scenario right now ... do you want to get back to the office?
I enjoy the extra hour of sleep (2 hours less commute) and you can goof off at home. Watch Netflix all day while on conference calls in pjs all day. LOL
Vaccine will not be available to mass population until at earliest in April. To ensure everyone get it, it will take another month or possibly 3. It takes 4 more weeks since you get the shot to have real effect, thus best case scenario will be sometime in June at earliest.
All that timeline is based on additional data supporting the effectiveness of the vaccine and being able to produce and store large amount of it in the next 4 to 5 months, which is going to be a huge challenging task. In addition the main assumption is that most people are willing to get the shot, again very unlikely until the full impact and side effects are known.
I heard same about Ford and GM. Workers are sent parts by FedEx and assemble cars at home.
@1plq+17OuPuOc What's your location? Is this to move from Phase 4 to Phase 3? Maybe offices would open up to like 25% capacity but it's hard to see most people coming back to US locations in January, especially given the current surge in cases in the US.
I recently heard around the middle of January. From a reliable source.
Many/most other major companies have announced WFH through June 2021 (big tech, Ford/GM, Target, big finance). I suspect Chevron will be similar. A vaccine is not going to be widely available until Summer even if it is approved late this year.
It'll be interesting to see what work looks like for Chevron after we return to work. Other companies are adopting a "hybrid" approach with WFH up to half time. I would be supportive of something similar at Chevron.
(1) Yes, March is a good "guess". It all depends on when a vaccine is announced and how fast it can be distributed. Without a vaccine, we're WFH indefinitely. Plan on a "1st WFH anniversary" (maybe DP will have a cake in San Ramon?) on March 16, 2021. (Remember on March 16, 2020 when we all thought we would be out of the office for maybe two weeks, tops?)
(2) Chevron moves very, very slowly. It will take 6 months (starting Jan. 1, 2021) just to recognize all the mistakes (organization + staffing level) made this time around. Then another 6 months to plan the next reorg/layoff, then 6 more months to do it. If oil languishes, next layoff round is early-mid 2022. There's also the outside chance that something geopolitical happens, oil shoots through the roof, and Chevron starts hiring like a drunken soldier (like 2010-2013).
