After 40+ years in the industry it’s time to hang my hat. I’ve seen a lot of changes, a few of them okay, but most made me scratch my head and think “you stupid id–ts”. I’ve gotten too old for all this bureaucratic nonsense and other things I see going on. For what it’s worth it was a good run to retirement.

Good for you. I did the same after 35 years. The oil field for sure has changed. It was an incredible experience while it lasted.
Congrats. Hope you stayed with the old pension plan.
The only thing bogus is HR trash interfering in this thread.
It’s been miserable since 2001.
Threads like this are either bogus or started by people who need help. If you’re walking away or retired years ago as they usually claim, why are you wasting your time posting on a lay-off board about a company you claim to despise? Let it go and get therapy.
The environment has become increasingly toxic, and most people are miserable. Misery loves company. They don’t want to see someone escape and be happy with life afterward, when they’re stuck and just waiting for the next round of layoffs.
I’m having trouble understanding why this thread has so many down votes. HR, is that you? Uncle R?
Enjoy retirement. There’s been a lot of changes in oil and gas, and the entire country that make me scratch my head too. I left oil and gas after just 15 years, during this industry wide downturn. While unpleasant at the time, it was the best decision that was ever made for me, and I haven’t looked back.
Welcome to retirement! I jumped ship from Conoco 5 years ago, after being with them 35 years. I could see the writing on the wall and the gravy from severance was too good to pass up.
Good for you. Enjoy you time in the sun.
Forty plus years is a long time at one company.
Doesn’t happen anymore.
I probably would have stayed at Pennzoil exploration research if they hadn’t kicked me to the curb when they won the Texaco tort lawsuit.
I left oil and gas after that only to come back a few times indirectly. Glad I jumped.
Have a great retirement!
