Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Could they have picked a worse timing for involuntary layoffs?

Think about it - right after Thanksgiving and right before Christmas. Basically, this will make sure that we can't enjoy either holiday. Thanksgiving will be spent worrying and stressing about the layoffs. Christmas will be spent either stressing over finding a new job or thinking about all the friends who were let go and have to spend their Christmas thinking about finding a new job. Happy holidays to us all, I guess.

Exxonmobil is still hiring in India and Malaysia. So much for outsourcing and redundancies.

It was timed so that you can get supplemental income as a department store Santa.

The plus side is you're still getting a paycheck during the holidays. I think it would be worse spending the holidays at the unemployment office.

@pav+17MCm2cN It’s true. Chevron is officially done with layoffs too. Even the Noble layoffs/selections are done as of this week.

Best of luck. Y’all waited way too long.

Really? Freaking worried about Holidays?!?! Just shows how much of a sheltered, spoiled life you've lived.

Layoff can be good. Got PIPed in July. Quit. Got 3 months pay. Got new job in 2 weeks. Happier! Would not have left on my own. Would have been working still unhappily. New job new people new company lot better.

Do you think the bogus PIPOff was pleasant? Middle of the pandemic, companies awaiting the outcome of the election to make hiring and growth decisions, no goodbyes to any coworkers because of WFH...at least this is more honestly being called a lay-off.

First we waited until the government stopped unemployment supplements so people who were cut on the bottom that didn’t have much income with families that might have needed the help couldn’t get it. Then we decide to have another massicve lay-off right before Thanksgiving and Christmas when it known for months that this needed to happen. I cannot see any good in what they have done. People comment here and cannot understand why other boards like Chevron are not so angry. It seems it is because they were honest.

Everything about what they have done from July on has been heartlessly mishandled. It gives a clear picture of how bad xom leadership is now. People are not making it up Just because their angry. We have promoted a lot of the wrong people into leadership positions over the last 2-3 years on every level of leadership from the ceo down to team leads. It is disheartening.

They did the same thing with the NJRSC. Announced it the day before thanksgiving break so everyone had extended time to cool off so no one shoots the place up.

Yeah, I sorta have the same thought for a different reason. Not knowing if I’m getting the axe, I don’t know if I can commit to the travel expenses and potentially rolled over vacation money for a Christmas trip to visit family. Due to my particular situation even if I’m not laid off, I won’t be able to make the trip if I find out Dec.15th. That really s—s having not seen family all year due to COVID.

Ultimately, it’s all about the company with these decisions though. If they inconvenience us, we just have to s— it up.

This is done to have the HC off the books by the end of the year.

Layoff is in February. You get the holidays on the payroll. It is never a good time to be laid off Fwiw.

Almost everyone agrees that a summer layoff would be better. Let’s push for that. Make your voice heard!

I don't think there is never a good time for layoff.
