Thread regarding Raymond James Financial Inc. layoffs

Still no luck

I’ve been going crazy turning in applications left and right. It’s downright disheartening. I’ve done follow ups for all and gotten rejections/position has been filled/or we’ll let you know answers. I don’t know what more I can do. I knew the job market would be difficult - I just didn’t think it would be this difficult. Anyone else have any luck since being laid off?

We will get our severance soon but still it's not easy. That will keep me okay for some months until I find a job. My prayers go to those who are also having difficult financial times now.

At this point I have given up...I filed for Florida unemployment and am now getting that massive $275 a week for 12 weeks. I'm hoping there is a new stimulus soon to add to this. Oh and we need the Florida Governor to extend the executive order where we don't have to put down 5 job applications a week. The current order expires on 12/4.

Regarding the previous post, I agree with it but per what I have seen in the last 4 weeks I have only seen a few openings for my experience. I wish there were that many where I could send hundreds of applications. I keep looking every day.

You now have a full time job that pays 100% commission.

Your job is now a salesman or saleswoman. You have a product to sell: yourself.

During great economic times, there were 100 applications per job opening. During bad economic times there are 500 applications per opening.

Expect to submit 500 applications or make 500 contacts.

The situation is definitely something that I'm no longer familiar with having been at RJ for so long. I have basically forgotten how to answer interview questions. I figure the more that I do, the more comfortable I will become. But honestly, I don't want to have to do interviews for months on end. At this point in my life I just want a paycheck and health/retirement benefits. I've decided to change directions and leave the financial world to go back to my administrative roots. Hopefully the right fit will come along sooner than later. Just trying to stay positive and move forward. Best of luck to everyone that's still looking like I am!

Thank you all for the information and tips posted here. Especially for older folks like me who have not looked for a job in decades. It's scary and daunting :-(

Recruiters in Finance positions in our area are Jenn Bellso at StevenDouglas. See her on LinkedIn. She also reposts her colleague, Shaunna Kelley at StevenDouglas, finance positions. Shaunna is located in Nashville but her area includes posting finance positions in Florida.

Did you receive the LHH Professional Program sheet in your severance papers? It is complimentary from RJ. It is a job search, career coach service to use as another resource to job search. Sign up info is listed on the sheet.

I agree and it's stressful. I am using LinkedIn, Zip recruiter, company specific sites, etc. I worked at RJ for almost 20 years and I am trying to update my job seeking skills, any help from the ones already looking will be appreciated. Any one working with a recruiter that you can suggest? I am not upper management.

Not an easy time to look for a job, I am seeing something similar. Things like a job that was posted like 2 hours ago and it says something like "be one of the first 25 applicants". Hope most of us have the 3 to 6 months savings to cover daily expenses plus what we will get as severance. Good luck to us who are looking for a job!
