Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

Furlough length

Is there a point where the company can hire off the street rather than call a furloughed employee? I’ve heard that after 3 years they do not have to call back from the furlough list... Truth?

Norfolk Southern hires a lot of dummies. A lot. I only see half a right answer so far. If you have 3 years of service and get furloughed.... you have an unlimited amount of time to get called back. If you have less than 3 years of service and get furloughed.... you have 1 year to get called back. That is what the contract says. Anything else you read is false information coming from a lazy mo–n.

Lots of false information here. If you're a journeyman, you have unlimited length call back rights, unless you're dumb enough to sign them away. Why you'd want to come back to be at the bottom of the roster, working off shifts with weekdays off is beyond me.

The one year thing is if you have less than 3 years service
