I heard taking the 6 months option is bad for H1B. Why not take the 6 months and find another job? Moreover how is it any different than the impending layoff if one can't find a job internally?

you have 60 days from last working day to find jobs, 6 month package one has to leave last week of nov, so has time to stay in US legally till end of Jan. If one can stay till jan 4, have time till march 4 to stay in US. either way being on H1B is very hard now with no job loss. Don't blame trump. he has done more for immigrants (legal) than anyone else. the green card is moving fast, and yes that is blamed on Trump also. ok i sneezed, blame it on trump.

They can return to their home country and look for work there
It's more difficult to find a job if you are unemployed + most companies have an unofficial hiring freeze
