Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

Noticed that 80% of those laid off were a visible minority from my group. Anyone noticed something similar?

Yes you thought you had a great relationship, but are you really sure what he was thinking because as far as I see, he made an appraisal that was against you but never mentioned to you? You had a relationship, but was he a close chum, drinking buddy, were you part of the old boys club. It might not even be your boss, it is possible you might not have chums/ influence in other places or departments that would give you an edge.
If you had chums in high places, you would be well protected I think. The whole persona, image seems to be something people take seriously.
I think specific groups were targeted, like relatively new hires or those where head count had to be done and weather or not your sup could have managed without you.

Canadian born visible minority here who was laid off for no reason. I was a top performer and was given a huge raise due to performance and shortly laid off a month later. I was told I’m not a good long term for for the company. I was blind sided and totally caught off guard. Didn’t see it coming. I thought my boss and I had a great relationship.

You need to recognize, it matters how chummy a person is with the people, the euphemism is relationships. So if you are not cozy, your evaluation will suffer. Being coloured would make it harder because tastes, life experiences, ability to relate to others is different.
I lost my job some time ago and I found having chums makes life better, I was specifically asked to have more relationship.

During the first round of layoffs, group(s) that I'm in/aware of laid off the following demographics: ~40% women, ~75% non-white (those groups overlap). Other side of that coin: I found ~60% either very difficult to with (bordering sometimes on incompetence) or competent but combative (ie not challenging the status quo in a positive manner). Didn't know the other ~40% well enough to say.

Yes. In my group those let go were all female or minority engineers across seniority levels. Immediately replaced by engineers who had been recalled from US or other placements. Other than one supervisor, I am the only person who is female now and majority are white males. The gents left are all wonderful-dont get me wrong. But those who got let go definitely thought differently and often challenged the status quo. I can't help but notice how similar everyone left is and how I stand out... which one of these is not like the other....

The entire Imperial managerial organization is basically “non existent” a bunch of jokers and puppets sitting on their bums. Their onl purpose is to claim that it’s a a Canadian company while they wait on instructions from the Americans.
Layers of managers, section heads, VPs and SVPs that have no role and cost millions with no real value to a company that can have a much brighter future if Exxon stops treating it as a cash cow

In Imperial Oil 50% of high paid managers have not much work on hand, they just show themselves busy by redeploying same process and practices that were used earlier (nothing new). I have noticed those managers are not much educated, more than 10 years with the company not creative. Half of them don't have technical knowledge, basic IQ and talk mostly about social pleasers.
They just create non essential work for them. Most layoffs are visible minority people on tools or grass root workers. Imperial oil can save big $ by laying off higher paid manager who indulge in nepotism and not worth the pay/Pension. They get promoted by corrupt ranking system keeping good relations and making friends but not productive work. No wonder Imperial oil loosing its stock value...

Small sample size so far from my group.

40% visible minority; 60% female; 2-3 years of experience average.

These are people who make up a small fraction of the payroll. They cannot truly accomplish savings by ridding themselves of the lowest paid staff. They need to get rid of 50% of the so-called managers (everyone is called a manager in our group, dumb enough).
