Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

ACN, what to expect...

  • Major operations in Bulgaria, India, Malaysia, Philipines and Kansas will be absorbed by Accenture
  • We will be buying business process outsourcing service from Accenture - everytime someone at ACN moves a piece of paper we get billed - granted, we'll be buying services in bulk so that paper move charge may be covered from a prepaid pile of services
  • Empolyees will change badges
  • Job descriptions will change
  • Jobs will be streamlined, if you are in an ACN location you will be busy (all the time)
  • ACN manages well, career paths will be clear, expectations will be documented and managed - pay will be around average
  • Rebadged folks may be asked to do other things for ACN - e.g., if AIG workload dips, you may be working on things for other companies that ACN has service contract with - this keeps you busy and decreases likelihood of layoffs
  • This will be a good opportunity for folks who are ready to accept change, ready to move on and use ACN to advance - there will be more work but it is very likely it'll be more organized, methodological and rewarding

I used to work for both ACN and AIG, I left AIG in February to join a much smaller operation in the same field.

All the best.

AIG = Accenture India Group. I had a couple of good tech guys ask me if they should consider openings at AIG they were contacted about. I told them only if absolutely necessary. This place has the worst morale of anywhere I've ever seen. Expect an exodus of key employees. There's no career path at AIG anymore, unless you are an Accenture flunky.

Obviously, a paid sponsored post from ACN / AIG...

Watch out:

  1. Under most country laws outside the US, to move an employee from one legal entity company to another requires the employee with vested contract terms to be protected. They need to be paid out before they can move across.
  1. This is the case in Malaysia. This is also the case in the Philippines. There are 3 AIG legal company entities in Kuala Lumpur and Manila. To move employees from one to another (IT to BPO) before going to Accenture means they have to buy out people's benefits as promised in their employment and harmonization letter contracts. To break it, means they are doing something illegal in those countries. Expect employees to file court labor cases because of this, on top of current existing court labor cases in Malaysia and the Philippines.
  1. They cannot just force people to accept the deal or just resign if they do not want to. It is also illegal and contrary to the law.

This has now forced the hand of the BPO (paralegal) team to start to form an employee union — not sure how Accenture will find that attractive.

Without the right experienced people during the transition, how will this work?

Good luck to us still trapped in this mess.

I would guess that you would not be getting severance, and if you decline to work for Accenture, it will be a voluntary termination.

Just wondering about if AIG will give any severance for the move over?
