Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Don't be fooled by the raises talk

Don't let this story fool you into thinking Walmart is doing something overly good. There will be a LOT of hourly employees losing their positions and forced into lower paying roles. Some will have the possibility of severance. Salary roles are being calibrated against each other for a role that may be higher paying. Those who aren't favored aren't eligible for severance and are left to fill the gaps is coverage through out a 50 mile radius. End game is Walmart is cutting payroll and covering it up as a pay raise for all employees which simply isn't true.

The answer to the Department Managers question. If not chosen for a Team Lead position or not accepting a Team Lead position, you will be allowed to keep your current pay until October 2021. After that your pay will be reduced to the top of the regular associate pay scale. Also keep in mind that with these new changes, you will be required to work overnight, weekends and at other stores within 50 miles. To put it bluntly, your quality of work life balance will change and they can abuse you if they decide to.

You have to hand it to Wal-Mart. They have found away to eliminate higher paying salaried positions (Co-Managers and Assistant Managers) and associates with longer tenure (20 plus hourly department managers per store) without having to pay hardly any of any severance pay. Then they put a positive spin on it to the public and come out smelling like a rose. Sooner or later all their bad juju will come back to them, maybe not in my lifetime.

I am a department manager that will no longer have a position. I do not want to be a team lead. Will I automatically be put on a team in my area or a different area? Will I be completely without a job? No one in my store seems to be able to answer questions concerning Great Workplace. Does anyone on here have any answers?

I had heard sometime ago that this program had been tried years ago – and failed miserably. It was up in the attic gathering dust and someone pulled it down, blew off the dust and said - Here, make it work. Someone was assigned to this task for quite a while – and then he left the company. They had someone else take it over – and were told to make it happen. Most management wants nothing to do with this – but they don't have a choice. There is an extreme feeling of dread for many people getting ready to take this on. Einstein's definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different outcome . . .

Change isn't always good! They tried this concept years ago and some areas never got touched unless a visit was in the works. And then the pressure was on to "fix" everything as if this program was working. As for raises, it's only AP, TLE, Bakery, and Deli. Team Leads and Coaches make good money but it's way more responsibility and unfamiliar areas to work in.

I’m okay with all the changes. My hard work has been recognized and I have a position. I’m tired of carrying my fellow CSMs. I feel bad because they won’t get the promotion but too many managers get promoted out of management desperation. So then again, this is needed.

The salary role is a higher paying role. Stop trying to spin everything. Change is good.
