Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Fix the Unions!

OK, Here is how we do it.

We need to change our approach to how we fight this company. We need to organize and consolidate the unions. Each hub has like 40 part time representives that collectively don't have a clue as to what they are doing.
We need to consolidate and vote in, one single rep for each direction that works full time as a rep and works with the other directions to handle this company at the local level. They would work allternating shifts so that one rep is always available to help members around the clock. They need to record monthly meetings that are available to all members of the UTU or BLET and allow all members a voice and vote on the meetings. If we organize at the local level then maybe we can see results at the national level.
All valid time claims, safety issues, harassment and intimidation issues need documented and accounted for so that when, and I mean when, we finally decide to strike we will have the documents to collaborate our reasons with a judge and have the weapons we need to fight this company. Let's all quit the complaining and start with the basic steps needed to right the ship. United we stand, divided we will most definitely fall. Its time we fight back. Upvote this if you agree and comment if you have ideas to contribute.

The reason some people don't want unions is for situations like this. The contract negotiations are a joke, and seem to benefit the companies. The dues will go up, with very little to no change in procedures. The only things that seem to change is the overall costs to its members. Ok so why did the dues go up if nothing has changed? Why are we paying all this money every year, with almost no reaction from them when shlt hits the fan? The RR's have been coordinating their actions to circumvent the contracts for years. In the ten years I was there, my dues went up by 51%. Thats quite a difference from a unions standpoint. PSR comes along, and where are they? That's right, sitting in their offices still collecting the dues. Their members are losing their jobs, dealing with hostility at their workplace, dealing with unfair work rules/practices, and the people who should be doing something about it are just sitting there. Its not all bad though. If or when the RR's get rid of the unions, then there will be no more dues to pay

I don't see anything about not wanting the unions. The post was only intended to point out that we need to change how they operate. We need to get members fully involved so we combat this company when they step all over our agreements. We need to show professionalism and solidarity to prove to them we won't be walked on. We need change for the better. Right now the unions are a joke!

It doesn’t matter what the Union’s want. We the membership decide what we want from unions. And we demand it. We pay the dues. We tell them what we want. But to throw up our hands and say it isn’t working let’s be non union is crazy. Why would anyone not want representation?

What makes anyone think that the unions want to be “fixed”? Union leaders seem to be fine with the status quo and union members seem to be fine with complaining about it.

It’s not about fighting the company. It’s about being paid fairly, safe working conditions, good benefits, being treated respectfully etc. without unions the working people have no representation. We can replace a union that isn’t doing it’s job. But why would we not want representation. So we should fix our current union’s or get new ones. But why in the world would we say we don’t want representation.

Fight the company for what? Even if the company were to stop this PSR shlt, would you really want to go back to it? How much better do you think it would actually be? Your post is a great idea and I agree with you, but I'm lost as to what were fighting for. The unions have been dogshlt for a very long time. The company has been getting worse way before PSR came into the picture. I see no point in fighting to keep a job at a company that treats its employees as poorly as they do.

8 hours work for 8 hours pay. Let’s try that first!

All crafts need to unite, agreement and non-agreement together, that's the only way things have a chance of improving.
