Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Has anyone else "transitioned" to PT after layoff?

I was asked if I wanted to return 10 days after i was laid off. I said I would like to work until I could find something FT. I was told the DM said I am only "allowed" to work 25 hours/week.

Today I received a letter from corporate stating that I can keep my health insurance until the end of the year. This WOULD be great except that after a pay and hours reductions, it will cost me HALF of my paycheck. I called the number on the letter and asked if I could work more than 25 since they're letting keep my insurance anyway, (since I assume they wanted to limit my hours so they wouldn't HAVE to give me the option for health insurance) and the woman I talked to said it was up to my store manager.

Very weird that this was not discussed at the time of my layoff.....

No, I don't have to pay it back. That was a condition of mine when I was asked to go back, and HR was involved. If you read the Separation Agreement, it clearly states that re-payment is at the discretion of the company. They approved it. They also know that my returning is just until I find a FT job.

Did you get it in writing.?????? Discretion is the word here. If it’s not in writing you have no recourse. They “told” me the same thing. Agreement is only amendable by both parties. A verbal directive is not legal.

There are so many different hours for the FT that came back PT. Is it 24.5, or 32...more ??
Your store Manager has been given direction from the DM. And even that is a different answer from store to store, District to district

"Um. You signed a legal doc that said you might have to pay back you severance if hired prior to the end of the severance period. I would want that in waiting as well."
