It’s the complete opposite of a meritocracy. If you work hard, you’ll just get more work. If you’re smart and capable, you’ll be seen as a threat to your boss, which means you’ll be passed over for high-profile assignments that could get you recognized. This happens because when you're more competent than your boss and there are limited opportunities for promotion, they feel insecure about your potential rise.
Some SLS individuals lack substance, no qualifications, or degrees, and don’t even know how to respond to emails.
Would you consider working at a company where supervisors are demoted to lead roles, promotions are restricted, and the workplace is toxic with backstabbing? A place where sharing and learning are discouraged?
A Wake-Up Call
If you're part of the SLS and fail to meet the Master's instructions, you should be downgraded and placed in a cold storage until further notice.
Many MNCs often prioritize profits over people, creating environments where employees may feel disrespected and undervalued. These companies, in their pursuit of efficiency and bottom-line growth, sometimes place unrealistic demands on their workforce, leading to situations where employees feel their dignity and sense of self-worth are compromised. The pressure to meet quotas, the lack of support, and the disregard for employee well-being can lead to a toxic atmosphere, diminishing morale and productivity.
Can we go on strike?

Song bo, meanwhile how many roles are being cut at site
oh ya, saw a BTL becoming RL, SLS becoming lead/advisor, DH becoming project advisor
The company is actually great. But not the site. These pple are the ones that sc--w up Sgcx. Esp the SLSes. All good for nothing....
What should be cut next? From the annual course, D&D, team building, oranges, snacks, or saving from millions to billions for Woody? Also, moving SLS to a lead or individual contributor role? And is making them "no face" a step toward resignation?
Some employees are frequently taking extended smoking breaks, which are cutting into valuable work hours. In addition, I have observed that some individuals are spending long periods in the restroom watching dramas and movies, which I believe is impacting their overall productivity.
Some extended social breaks, particularly at the Ya Kun coffee shop during "tea time," seem to be consuming significant amounts of work time. While socializing and breaks are important for maintaining morale, the amount of time spent away from work for personal activities may be excessive and not aligned with company expectations for productivity.
Looking back, who should be classified under PIP?
quit la, no need complain here. everyone on survival mode, why rely on your sls to speak up for you? You strawberry?
Needed help from another craft engineer but received an unprofessional response in return and was shouted at publicly
Is that the kind of “healthy tension” that the ELT wants ? Everyone is overworked and under tremendous amount of stress but it is just work. If I cannot count on my supervisor to stand up on my behalf, I should just resign like so many did recently
all management got con leh by this BTL. just talk and good impression. will fly high leh
oh sounds like a btl i know
hello btl. ask question just want to show face/voice. funny
In front of management like bootlickers. No dignity Kek
behind the screen like hero, in front of management like zero. That is like many EM ppl now
Because it’s anonymous la bodoh. All keyboard warriors. Just like you- anonymous
So many bad comments here but why em sg LinkedIn still sound so positive? Should crash the party there with realistic feedbacks
I'm tired too
tired la
why don't just keep hbf and close sgcx?
What do you expect, it is a US company. Having a singaporean lead will eventually be a problem when tough decisions are needed - like cutting people, selling off business, etc. Hence, having a foreigner there will help decisions to be executed swiftly and mercilessly.
The site will always push foreigners to be our lead, how about the locals? Now I know why the locals are quitting
Who chitchatting, give some context like which site or function. Share the juice la
Absolutely right, some supervisors with little experience still get promoted base on their own ethics group. It seems like they want to pull their whole village people in. It is very bias and unhealthy for the company.
You are the trial lead but kept on chit chatting when you are supposed to be supporting the operation team. Yet, another person is doing much better and solve the issue together with operation and answering to all the question PMTE asked. Hello? Is this the kind of leader we need? And also you should be ashamed as the another person got no experience at all.
means free to take mc
Given risks of doing business in china with the current us/china tensions, it is unlikely that china 1 will displace Singapore completely. However, given current market conditions in SG (high energy prices, low margins) it is quite a dismal situation with measures including removing the onsite doctor! Don’t understand how the accounting is done- our EPS beat and revenue met forecast.
Just wait for PIP and still get three months pay. Better than nothing right?
farm until the end, don't huan lo so much la
The prospect of 2025 is definitely not a good year when China 1 is starting up, most likely CRISP delivers, SOP1 mothballs, maybe Sar2 will be sold as package. 59 Petro stations will not be EM anymore. At least 20% employees force into PIP/lay off. Our market in the region will continue to shrink more. What are we waiting for? Farm until the last day?
No
Why don't we move to https://www.thelayoff.com/exxonmobil-singapore or /exxonmobil-singapore - it's easier to start separate topics and we can upvote and downvote specific things - this thread is way too big
It hasn’t dawned on many that you NEED a certain amount of people, material and funds to keep the system functioning properly regardless of who’s in charge. Anyone who tells you otherwise is ether a fool, or is certain that you won’t be around to dispute it.
Making a mule do twice the work for 1/2 of his feed is guaranteed to ki-l the mule. But you save on feed, so there’s that.
It’s ridiculous to keep squeezing and pushing hard just to hit $1B—there’s nothing left to squeeze, bro. The only way to survive is by lowballing your boss. Meanwhile, Trump has already moved forward with “drill, baby, drill.” If oil prices drop below $50 per barrel, it could seriously impact ExxonMobil’s stock price and operations, potentially leading to layoffs.
I wanna go to IT too but more tech companies are offshoring to India and NUS comp grad 2024 has over 1k students. How to tan Jiak this ITflation
Happy Lunar New Year to all! 🏮✨
I left EM in July 2021. When I made that decision, I was terrified—knowing I might never earn my last drawn salary again (especially with that 3-month bonus factored in!).
The first two years were incredibly tough—mentally, emotionally, and financially. I had switched industries entirely, moving into IT, and had to start from scratch. Thankfully, there were government schemes that supported mid-career transitions, so while I was living hand-to-mouth, at least I didn’t have to dig too deep into my savings.
Fast forward 3.5 years—I just started another new job in IT, continuing on the path I’ve been building for the past two years. And guess what? My starting salary now matches my starting pay at EM (And we all know EM was offering above-market salaries back then.)
I’m still working towards matching my last drawn salary, including that 3-month bonus. But step by step, I’m getting closer.
Even though I’m earning less overall, I’ve gained something far more valuable—positive energy, a healthier mindset, and a workplace that truly values me.
My new company has two fully stocked fridges in the pantry—drinks, sandwiches, instant noodles—take what you need, no questions asked. Oh, and two free orange juices daily from Ijooz! 🍊🍹. And they provide 1 free lunch per week LOL!!! It's not those $3 cai fan bought from some cheap hawker centres ok....
My managers respect my input—when I say something is a no-go, they listen, adjust, and find workarounds instead of forcing unreasonable expectations.
When I take on extra responsibilities (aka "CCA" tasks), I get all the resources and support I need to succeed.
This is a stark contrast to my last days at EM, where no matter how well I did my core job, it was never enough—because the priority was always about cutting costs. Even if someone was underperforming, as long as they saved the company a bit of money, they were seen as more valuable than someone who simply did their job well.
Looking back, I don’t regret making the switch. The journey was tough, but today, I feel valued, appreciated, and—most importantly—at peace.
And most most importantly, I don't have to take on any stupid or unreasonable tasks from EM SLS, who are mostly only looking out for themselves. Then when you achieve what they want you to do, you are still under-performing. I don't also have to deal with the fact, i tried so hard to help EM, but in the end, EM does not look out for me, they only are looking out for their top management, their SLS, heads etc
Finally, i want to add, the world does not revolve around EM hahaha there is a bigger world out there. Without EM, i didn't die. Thou the journey had not been easy, i did take all the positive things i learn in EM (Hey, EM really does have some things to learn from hor). I applied all these to my new roles, and i succeed!!
nah sls protected, base workers still need to cut more. SLS will only move to advisor role or PE
SLS will be the next target for cuts—it's too costly, redundant, and there are simply too many of them.
