Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Store tanking quick

We have no staff. We have no merchandise. We barely have one bottle of sanitizer per floor. Before all this we were doing great. Sales were up yoy. Then they eliminated probably 30% of our staff. No more security. No more visual. No more operations. Then they never called anyone back but a handful of us. Turnover is crazy. We are expected to cover almost 40,000 sq foot of space with one person.

I put in my notice Friday. I am done. The store is collapsing.

If all you had was 1manager and 4 colleagues, you should have been directed to close the store. That's not enough for your required minimum staffing. I'm in a little store and I know that ours is 1 manager and 12 Associates.

We rarely have a callouts any longer, everyone is coming to work, usually 7-8 per floor, and we are a "E" door. Tough compared to pre-Covid, but we are working to recover what we can. New goods coming in. No one on furlough any more.

My store is doing pretty good now. We have finally started getting new merchandise. In fact we have 3 tracks this week plus we’re getting new fixtures.

My store is full of old merchandise. This time of year we start seeing boots. Only thing came is inc outdated long boots . The entire shoe dept is last act. ! Now go on lunch. You can’t eat in the mall and more than half the food court is closed. Now take a stroll thru the mall. 2/3 reds of the store are closing down for good

This is the result of treating people worse than the merchandise left on the floors. people can only take so much.

@goodbyemacyshellodillards Wow that story is INSANE. The stuff of nightmares. I don't blame that associate for walking out for one minute. How can they expect this of a single individual? It's plain wrong.

We had one person scheduled to cover an entire floor Saturday with nobody available to cover breaks/lunch/bathroom breaks. The lady who was working it walked out. We did not realize we had nobody covering an entire floor for about 3 hours. We ended up finding piles and piles and piles of merchandise around the register. Customers had walked out in frustration and just threw their stuff down. We ended up running a close to 220,000 square foot store with 1 manager and 4 sales associates. At the end of the day the manager basically said "f— it, we are done" and we left everything as-is. We would have been there until 3AM trying to just get the registers cleaned up. The final straw was when the mall doors would not lock properly and the alarm would not set and nobody would answer the phone when he was trying to get someone from facilities. The 1-800-Macys jerks kept telling the manager to "stay at the store until you can get someone". The guy finally had it and said he had been there since 6AM, it was now 9PM and he was not staying one more minute.

It is bad. I have been here 10 years part-time and never saw it this bad before. Thankfully I am in a position where I do this to keep busy and don't need the income. I plan on putting in my resignation on Monday. I do not feel safe here anymore and quite frankly I can't deal with this nonsense anymore. A friend of mine who works at Dillard's wants me to come work down there with her and that is just what I plan on doing.

The funny part is. This is all Macy’s stores and guess what’s? It’s not gonna get better and there is no future there only a fading paycheck

Do not fear the future, there is life after Macy’s.

Im so sorry, but, sadly, your store is the norm, not the exception now. This is the domino effect in action; what we are seeing is large scale 'cause and effect'. IOW, longterm consequences for short term actions.
