Do PSG 24s really have a chance in round 3?

Met with a job owner recently and he kept talking about how this was an optional round for me. I have the right skillset, high scores, and am well regarded. Worried they’re going to pass me over because I have another chance (in theory). Any thoughts?

no, several PSG 25s I know did not get a job in R3 and have to try again in R4. Most of the PSG 24s were told to not even try.

A friend got laid off from CVX in 2017. He went back and got an MBA. He has nearly doubled his salary after leaving CVX. He suffered a couple low years working for a contractor, but he is now totally retooled for the future and earning more money with better benefits than if he stayed. But he had to suffer for a while before he made a comeback.

Despite claims, most jobs have a warm body in the chair, and if that person is reasonably good they will be selected to continue. Many empty R3 chairs already have a preferred replacement candidate sitting close by. Very little is really “open” at this level and nearly all has been already decided (except where there as been an unexpected EOI).

OP: Honestly? No, not really. Expect 25s to be posting down in R4. Focus on where you will be most competitive.

Go for it. I’m in Round 3 and checked the EOI box.

Why wouldn’t they? Some 24s are more skilled and add more value to 25s - 27s.

Sounds like you and only you give yourself high scores. Imagine that. Try working on your resume, loser, you will be out on the street soon. We'll see how high your scores are when you are flat on your A$$.

If the position you are posting for is listed as 25 / 24 and you are a 24 competing against 25’s you have the edge. They will pick you because you are cheaper.

I am PSG 24, and currently in a 24-25 job. I do not see why I should not be considered for my own role. It is on Round 3, but I am actually not trying to post up a PSG; it is my current role.

Only depends on who is advocating for you, how strong you are perceived to be, and what others on the panel think. Your logic about "pass(ing) me over because I have another chance (in theory)" is calculation beyond how they think and intentionally operate.

Yes if you are well connected and considered future leader, there were 2 or 3 27s that got to 28 positions in round 2, but again you have to be on the special list. Many 27s will be let go this round, remember some 28 psgs are fighting for jobs this round, so it is bloodbath on all levels. Good luck yo everyone, life is not fair but make the best of it.
