Description
As a Diesel Electrician for HEI, you’ll inspect, diagnose and repair the electrical components of diesel electric locomotives of various ages and models as a part of our mobile service team. You’ll be responsible for performing scheduled inspections and maintenance as well as solve various malfunctions in locomotive control circuits and components. Your goal is to ensure the electrical components are serviced safely and efficiently.
Accountabilities
Perform, with use of schematics and location circuit plans, scheduled electrical inspections of various components and electrical circuit testsDiagnose electrical malfunctions in locomotive control circuits and componentsPerform maintenance and repair of electrical components in locomotives and perform maintenance to miscellaneous equipment using schematics and location circuit plansWork with shop machines and toolsPlan and coordinate work activities, determine equipment needs and develop a plan to complete the workCommunicate with others, verbally and in writing, technical information, job procedure recommendations, and other work-related informationDevelop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and/or customersEnsure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
Qualifications Required
Basic keyboarding skillsBasic mathematic skillsAbility to speak English in a clear, concise manner to communicate with coworker(s) and supervisor(s)Valid driver's licenseEducation or work experience in electronics, control systems, AC/DC motorsAbility to read and understand all instructions including operating and safety rules, bulletins, special instructions, and federal regulatory documentsBasic verbal and written communication skillsAble to read electrical schematics and prints
Preferred
An Associate's degreeCertified and/or licensed as a an electricianExperience with large motor generators and/or high-voltage circuitryExperience working with electronics and/or electro-mechanical (EMD, GE) systemsExperience working in an environment that requires you to wear personal protective equipmentExperience working with, on and around moving heavy equipment

Able to occasionally walk, climb, and maintain balance on ladders, stairs, and steps in a safe mannerAble to occasionally bend, stoop, and kneelAble to occasionally perform overhead work for short periods of timeMust be able to detect and interpret different visual color signals and displays, and identify and determine the speed of moving objects at near or far distancesMust have normal color visionAble to safely walk and maintain balance on uneven surfacesAble to make occasional to frequent coordinated hand movements to grasp, place, or move objectsAble to lift and carry heavy objects
