Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Additional Exciting, Transformative Ideas!

I know you're reading, home office, so i wanted to give you some additional ideas that will help allstate stay competitive and grow.

1) equipment

Allstate is paying so much for computers, phones, HDMI cables, monitors, etc. COVID-19 gives us an excellent opportunity to excel in operational efficiency. moving forward, have employees purchase all the equipment they need out of pocket. now, they could buy it off Amazon, but what if you offered to sell the equipment you already have to them, and slightly undercut the retail prices? then, when employees leave, offer a buyback at less than what you sold it for? exciting!

2) Compensation

given the tough job market, allstate should adopt a retail model of compensation. low-band employees (processors, adjusters etc) will make a salary equivalent to 15/hr for 40 hours a week. pitch it as "supporting a livable wage" to get the progressives to go with it. PTO and benefits begin at the 3 year mark. no PTO or benefits before that. PTO begins at 3 days and at 20 year mark, 2 weeks. get rid of all corporate holidays thanksgiving, christmas and juneteenth. Transformative!

3) licenses

those who need licenses should have to pay to get them, renew them and pay for CE. it's their license after all.

4) Software

Software can be prohibitively expensive. so offer to pay for any 3rd party software for the employee, and have them pay you back through a regular deduction from their paycheck

5) churn and burn

remind them that there are thousands of people looking for a job, and if they can't hack it in this new, exciting, transformative environment, than you'll replace them. make metrics ever do slightly too difficult to reasonably reach in order to prevent having to give merit raises. remove BTE and inconsistent ratings to increase turnover and prevent tenure.

Cut costs? Get rid of 50% of the executives. Take away their cars, they can afford to buy their own. Sell the company jet. They can afford to fly first class on an airline... on their dime.

The first post in this thread sounds like it was made by an executive I know. He should have been fired years ago for his unethical actions, yet somehow he continued to get promoted. He and other execs made comments about their black on black Mercedes Benz cars... in front of a full Division meeting.
Just want to rub into you folks that "we have the cars and you don't".

Hell, I can’t even get $35 from my manager monthly as I use my personal cell to contact customers. I have customers contacting me at all hours and I’m supposed to smile and take it! Ridiculous.

I’ve NEVER heard of or worked for a company that includes PTO as part of your compensation. Assigning a dollar amount to ones PTO in lieu of paid out dollars to an employee is just about one of the slimmest things I’ve seen and I’m not spring chicken. A

Allstate isn’t some mom and pop local diner run by a family, it’s a massive corporation that makes BILLIONS of dollars while outsourcing jobs to India and treating their employees like garbage...there are companies struggling due to COVID but this is not one of them, you should probably take your “high and mighty” elsewhere

Sarcasm helps no one and only makes it ever more obvious the lack of knowledge surrounding why the layoffs are actually occurring. Companies do this continuously in order to stay relevant, competitive and- yes- increase profit. This is not a novel idea Allstate invented- Also, employment is at will and there are actually 1000’s of jobs out there. Stay if you want to try and continue on- leave if you want to find another opportunity- but, don’t act like this is not something that every long term employee has had to endure at least one time in a career. Also, those who never faced layoffs with a company probably came in one day to find the company filed bankruptcy and all locations were done. Right then. No severance. No warning. Just gone.

Because the company tried to keep their whole family together, instead of transforming and remaining profitable.

Also, those companies drowning due to Covid may actually be giving options, such as little to no PTO, to current employees TO TRY AND WEATHER A STORM- so, just be glad you are not faced with actual problems.

We’ve also learned payroll is off by a month according to accounting...in order to correct it we are doing a month without pay, starting yesterday

Excellent! I have one I would like to add...you KNOW that people with company cell phones can/will use them for personal use, so have them pay the bill! Sure maybe they have a personal phone too but they can cancel that...laptops too, personal use charge 100/month for company laptop....company car? Must pay full lease, insurance (Allstate of course) gas and maintenance!
