Suppose that you qualify for the ER and decline it. The hope is that you get the same offer in an upcoming LR. However, they go back and deduct the months from your decline. So, instead of 9 months, your LR is 6 months. Granted there would be 3 months at 100% vs 80%. It's just a ponderance at this point..

This is not correct. You can indeed get unemployment benefits with an ER package.

You might not be LR but you might get a salary reduction in the upcoming months. Who is to say ELT will not change the rules? This is business first and if you are asked to take a cut will you quit with no package? This is 2020 anything can happen.

From what I have been reading, you can still get unemployment for ER due company work force reduction.

I am taking the ER I urge you to let us know if the LR worked out for you.

With LR, you potentially could also get 26 weeks unemployment in addition. Cannot get unemployment with ER.

Almost seems better to wait for LR than take non-unemployment eligible ER. File unemployment immediately post LR, and then hopefully economy returns in spring.

Think about it. They have already gone through the models of how many LRs are needed given "X" number of peope ER.

If this ER is overall 60% of 2011 ER, wonder if LR payout similarly declining from prior packages.

Sort of like Monty Hall's "Let's Make a Deal" Gameshow. Would you like to exchange this ER package behind curtain number one, for the LR package behind curtain number two.
