Thread regarding Raytheon Co. layoffs

UTC got lucky

Looks like UTC got lucky with the merger/purchase of Raytheon. With all the cuts at PW and Collins, it looks like the Raytheon part is what is keeping the new company afloat. Still dont understand why Kennedy decided to merge/sell Raytheon. They were doing good and UTC wasn't.

@gwj+16uHzriN we had the same problem and everyone was struggling for years, Then they brought in a new CEO and a department manager. Those two people single handedly turn the shop around. They got rid of some upper level bad apples and brought about a level of professionalism I hadn't seen in almost three decades. The department manager they brought in is being moved from department to department to problem solve. From what I was able to see, one of the main problems was the " good ole boys " club going on in the front office. They spent a lot of time covering each others butts by blaming things on the workers.

I’m not sure about that comment on the hyper sonic so I know four people at Raytheon in Arizona left the Hypersonic program now “they’re” saying they left the program but come on? we just built that huge silo for hyper testing so I am not sure I can make sense of any of this scary times

@gwj+16uHzriN you're at least somewhat correct. Before I left Raytheon I queried a lot of the higher level managers. The takeaway response was "I'm close to retirement, so I don't want to rock the boat" or a flat out "I don't care my retirement is only a few years away".

Nobody below answered your question so I will. The merger was for future business; Meaning hypersonic products.
If you recall there was a new posting about a DARPA project that involved Raytheon for Scramjet (or ramjet) development: https://raytheon.mediaroom.com/2019-07-29-Raytheon-DARPA-complete-key-design-review-for-new-hypersonic-weapon

This was right around the time the announcement of a pending merger was released: https://www.npr.org/2019/06/10/731225619/raytheon-and-united-technologies-merge-to-create-a-new-aerospace-giant

Rockwell Collins does jet engines and I'll bet were in with Raytheon on the DARPA development: https://www.aerospacemanufacturinganddesign.com/article/utc-completes-rockwell-collins-acquisition-to-split-120418/

Since this is all open source news (and if you've been paying attention), RayTech is leveraging hard on the future hypersonic future products business. This was probably for the best, because Raytheon already had 36% in international sales. What does that mean?

International product sales are usually decades old for a lot of reasons I won't go into. Raytheon cronies were liking the income and weren't putting enough into their engineering (or engineering people) for new products. This was the beginning of the path of destruction that KODAK took to its final demise. Hopefully, Raytheon took a course correction early enough to save itself from its Cronyism, Results Base Incentive Culture.

Time is the ultmate conmveyor of truth. One unknown is the current culture that has suffered a mortgage meltdown, and a pandemic.

Maybe no news is good news. If there was going to be mass layoffs like the UTC side I think they would make some type of announcement. With that said, I know there are quiet layoffs going on at the Raytheon side of the house. I personally know people in IT and HR who were let go because of the duplicate job functions due to the BU merger and I suspect more will be happening till the end of the year once everything settles down and they figure things out.

Well they are always talking about this “new normal”. With the masks and all. In case you haven’t noticed, the other new normal is to not tell your employees wether or not they’ll have jobs until the day they’re getting Fired. That very thing just happened over at Halliburton. Called the whole place to a meeting. Middle of the week. Boom you’re all let go. Sent them home. Point is we aren’t going to hear sh– until the day hammer drops. Nobody cares about your financial issues. It’s all about the money and you are viewed as an nothing more than something they may or may not need anymore. And as far as I know I’m sure they’re going to see how many old guys we lose at the end of the year before there is any real talk of laying off as far a Raytheon goes. The crew they’ve brought in to replace them are id–ts. There is no screening process. If you have a pulse, show up to the interview, and just state that you’re gods gift to manufacturing they’ll hire you on the spot and won’t fire you for not being able to do your job. So that is the issue I’m personally waiting to see how this new company handles that. If I hear anything about layoffs or major changes I’ll post it on this site. Nobody has heard one peep about anything that’s going to happen next year. Not one thing. I think that’s not good personally but we will see.

I love the lack of respect Upper management is giving us with no information at all about our future. Constantly having emergency meetings then not telling us anything till very last notice... Disgusting leadership very snake in the grass.

Do you know if Raytheon is just relying on retirement to cut the work force or are there planned layoffs too? I suspect with the BU mergers there will be duplicate jobs and some body needs to go. Also what is going to happen with Raytheon corporate people?

As a current Raytheon employee I can tell you at least at our plant. We may be “doing good” contract wise but as far as operations wise it’s a total mess. 3/4 of the entire work force is going to be retiring in the next 2-4 years. Management is compiled of people who have no idea what they’re doing and have no balls to do what is needed to get the plant running properly. But hey what do I know. I’m just a floor level worker.
