This is a wholesale attempt to remove the older, wiser , hard working employees. I'm sure HR and Legal, have IBM on retainer for advice how to get away with violating all the age discrimination protection laws. This COVID scenario is a dream come true for HR.
The younger crowd popping out of the brainwash mills (so called higher education) are more in line with the socialism and communism themes being bully pulpit-ed by chuck, and the rest.
We've been down this path before. The layoffs hurt ability to take care of customers (in the case of TAC and AS), then after customers CIOs start making calls to chuck and others,,, you see keywords being sent to 'outtaskers' either stationed in India or elsewhere (anywhere but the US).
About 6 months later, all the older employee positions are back-filled, by younger, cheaper, bodies.
It's unfortunate that the local labor laws, don't enable the states and Feds to come and grab emails/docs while this is going on, and then do a followup (including private interviews with the workers within affected groups). Maybe something akin to a spot-check by health inspector at a restaurant.
