Thread regarding GE Healthcare layoffs

Quitting

People not laid off are starting to leave. Heard bout a few in dif groups. Not sure about backfill like are they filling those gaps or just pushing ahead. Is there more leaving than normal? Virus makes it hard to tell. Feel like more would leave if they could?

I started working at GE Healthcare in Madison, WI 5 months ago or 04/2020. This facility had less than 200 union employees in fall of 2018, they just crossed over 500 employees!
They build the R860 Carescape ventilator at this location. I've heard they will fallback to 300 employees eventually they historically have some layoffs around Christmas, but I also heard they have enough orders to keep us all employed until Spring, that's a ways off so who knows!
I have yet to hear anything good about GE corporate from anyone.

Confirmed several who left were on the 60to 90 day plan. Not all have jobs just paid time to look

Moving out tribal knowledge is a mistake. So many younger inexperienced people cannot come up to sped that fast. Sure they can be paid less, but at what cost to the future when things begin to come back? KLAS data already shows poor scores, so pushing things to India will only lower that.

SO many directors and middle managers that have no use. Really? Directors reporting to directors everywhere. What a waste of money right there. Managers with oddball titles that seem to do nothing, as well as many PM's or CRM' types. Leaders who have no clue about the technology keep dumping piles of work on people then tell them no OT? We have people who have helped design and support this product for decades who still do not know the entire system. And India or new kids will be able to? They need to slice the fat off the top and middle, not the working ranks. Or the future will end up poorly when things pick up.

People are leaving because they have been told they have 60-90 days notice. If you find job in that window why tell anyone you really got let go. Its always easier to find new job when you are employed.

And good for you that ur in a position to retire! It's hard to see how botched all this is and worse to be on the wrong end of it.

Every company tries and does forced retirement tho. It's not you, it's yo paycheck. I mean obvious bias against other minority groups, including older workers, is something that could be said about any company but no one cares enough usually. Unless they trying to hit some govt quota. Interested in more in the actual stuff you're saying about the product itself. People come and go, the why beyond generational friction and cyclical cost cutting is more important, like decline in product quality is something that is hard to change. Plus converting install after loss of confidence and all that.

Leave a company with an obvious bias against older, more experienced workers that is trying to export jobs as fast as possible to India & China that results in it selling the lowest quality products for the highest price but that is promoted by its bean-counting, power-point-jockey talking heads as the best? WHY LEAVE?

PS. I'm a long-time employee that'll be running for the retirement door very soon.
