Dumbest idea I've ever heard. Hardware and software work together to provide customers a supportable solution. Did someone forget how Cisco started?
Talking of dumb ideas.
Software has an increasing portion of the value and hardware is becoming a commodity. It makes perfect sense, for the same reason IBM sold their hardware x86 businesses years ago. There used to be a whole heap of US PC makers and now there is about what, 2? left.
I see a spin off for DC. US PSSs and TSAs are already being separated by DCN vs Compute focused goal sheets. Marketing teams also split. Appears that compute has been put in it's own little bubble ready to be sold off.
If they do this, it is a gift to Arista, Juniper, and HPE

I think the notion that Cisco is a software is silly. Their software does not work without the Cisco hardware.
My guess: Cisco continues as a software company. Hardware could be broken up or sold into as many as 3 new companies with Compute (UCS, HX, etc,.) as one, another as Enterprise Networking, and finally Core Networking. We shall see soon.
Cisco will be broken into a s/w and h/w company. The h/w part will be spinoff/sold to another entity. Cisco proper will remain as a s/w company.
I'm betting people won't like what's coming on the check in.

well done OP , I believe you are on to something here.
I agree and I was thinking about this myself. I am curious what they have to tell us on the Cisco Check-in later today...
