Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

What is a reasonable estimate for the health insurance replacement cost if one is affected by the LR/ER (in the US)?

Not having continued health insurance is the most worrisome part about losing my job.

I should add that I pay $2500 for 3 people (my wife, myself, and 1 kid). UnitedHC, VSP and Dental. It's the 1 kid that is k–ling me....but I priced out similar plans on healthcare.gov and the pricing wasn't any better.

It's expensive....and not 100% equal to the employee plan. Even after my deductible is met, I still pay 20%. And since I still have 1 kid on my plan, I'm paying $2500/month.....highway robbery.

For those >10 years of service there is the Cisco Retiree HC plan. Not sure on costs but that should become clear enough shortly.

I thought the Cisco Retiree Medical Access Plan (RMAP) was eligible to any employee with 5 yrs of service and was over age 50. Is the 10 years of service for those under 50?

The rates are basically the same as employee costs, but I don't think you get the Cisco contribution and you pay the full 100%. How it makes it better than COBRA, I don't know unless it's the fact that you can stay on it until you are eligible for Medicare/Medicaid instead of the 18 month limit that COBRA has.

As long as you enroll in one benefit, i.e. vision plan, you maintain your eligibility and you can change your benefit selection during each open enrollment or if a life changing event occurs such as losing your job and you can then add health/dental/etc. Once you drop all the coverages, you are not eligible to re-enroll.
