Thread regarding Ricoh layoffs

Have you seen the new Ricoh video?

Let's just say that Ricoh will be breaking up the company by April. So they are going the way of Xerox. Then they say that each company will be responsible for their portion of the company. They also mention that they need to speed up the process of becoming a digital company which means....goodbye techs me thinks. I think Florida and Mississippi were a testing ground, so now they will be selling off the techs to third party services.

Who knows what IT portion will do? Who knows where MS will stand. Our boss has been hinting that he might not be around anymore as most MS sites report to a direct manager, then he/she reports to an area manager who reports to upper management. Which makes me think they are cutting out the middle managers who are likely s—ing up air and resources.

Sad times. I think the end of Ricoh is coming. They believe that by being a digital company they will increase revenue and I believe they have muddy the waters so much people don't know what the hell they are, much less what the point of them is.

For any 10 year and under people, I seriously recommend that you find another stable company to work for because RIcoh ain't it cousin! Get out before the ship sinks totally. The only reason people with 10+ years stay is for a decent severance check at the end of the time we are here.

Legacy IKON techs seem immune to layoffs/firing because they have learned how to manipulate the numbers, and recieve preferential treatment by management. Ricoh took a quantum leap backwards when they acquired IKON (I Know Only Numbers). The Lanier aquisiton was bad enough, but I knew IKON would be the downfall of Ricoh.

When I left in 20 15, a Ricoh Maneger said something that still sounds like it rains true today. He said in a meeting as a kind of pep talk "The ship has left port, I dont know where we are going but we will land somewhere" LOL. So the ship still has not landed anywhere and it sounds like they making people walk the plank.

If you want to know the problem with Ricoh, simply read the response from one of Ricoh's higher paid employees who wrote a comment on here claiming it was mostly disgruntled employees commenting. Then the poster felt the need to tell us he/she made over $200K as if making an amount of money was more important than having happy customers, a healthy work environment and a mission statement focused around the companies core competencies, "ONLY" instead of whatever the customer needs. My advise to Ricoh, customers feel they are being ripped off when they can't reconcile your invoices. Common Sense 101. Ricoh's customer billing is very similar to a 100 page sale compensation plan they are both intentionally vague.

@3Cmpa+16qPCApR, Totally agree. The direct techs were the ones keeping this barge afloat and when it came time they were gassed with no class. The ikon people were 2nd, 3rd rate. Everything after the ikon purchase was downhill fast.

When Ricoh purchased IKON ( I Know Only Numbers )and moved their mgmt into most rolls, started the downfall of Ricoh. The Account (sales) executives were gone, all sales moved internally. Then a few months later service techs were laid off. I was one of them, a 20 year senior production tech gone...stood in a office with 5 other techs with a HR person on the PHONE informing us we no longer had a job....I hope Ricoh goes under. They deserve it.

Shame to see long term employees treated like this. Stark contrast from the flood of press releases about how amazing ricoh is.

Horrible company with zero vision for years. Blindly following xerox. Color cube? Hmm, how about gelsprinter? T-shirt printer? Why? 3D camera on a stick? Proctologist’s dream come true! This dumpster fire is smaller than Xerox’s but wayyyy hotter.

Glad I left in 2019. The wheels where wobblily then but with Covid and the push of workers to the home - needs for machine repair and maintenance fell off the cliff and the wheels completely fell off. I bought a home office printer/scanner/fax and when it had issues about 2 months in, the manufacturer just sent me a new one and said to keep the old one or throw it out....no service repair. Good people at Ricoh - don't hang on too long - save yourself and if there is an opportunity to leave take it - don't wait on a severance package unless you have a ton of years and just want to retire anyway. Best of luck to all.

Sounds like a lot of disgruntled former employees. You know what they say about opinions :-) I've been with Ricoh for 26 years and have W2 over 200K on multiple occasions. Stop crying about what you feel a company owes you and find some new cheese.

Cheap, c-appy, same machine defects generation after generation, terrible company. Got a buyout in 2017, can't wipe the smile off my face.

I left in 2015... tried to warn everyone about what was coming that I could. Sorry to see that so many good people are suffering due to ongoing (and terrible!!) leadership - for years and years now. Anyone aboard the Ricoh crazy train better bail before the mass branch sales make transiting to similar jobs elsewhere a competition against everybody and their uncle in a declining industry...

Worked at Ikon during the merger/acquisition. Typical corporate structure of needing tenure, education and political weight to move up the ladder. I was one of the highest performing employees and was in my early/mid 20's. They (Ricoh) ran me off, essentially.

I left, started and ran a very successful business. I was able to sell and currently am a director for another large company.

Old school mentalities ran a lot of good talent off when it turned into Ricoh. This doesn't surprise me one bit.

I agree with everyone here. I just wrapped up a 16 year tenure at Ricoh and let me just say that the executives make continual changes sometimes twice in a fiscal year and offer no guidance as to a larger picture. In turn when their plans fail they just initiate additional layoffs to compensate. The best chance they had at being successful was when they acquired IKON yet instead of listening to those at IKON who how to maintain a successful solutions business they began pushing Ricoh only products, souring partner relationships and the infamous consistent restructuring. Let's not even get into how many internal processes their employees are subjected to. For a company that holds each employee accountable for how profitable they are they sure do load that same employee up with so many internal hurdles that one would thing that was their full time job.

That is the destiny of the old fashioned printer manufacturing company. The company tried to transform itself to solution service oriented company, but without IT technology and culture. No capacity to develop solution, even simple application for MFP. The top management spent huge amount of money for M&A to expand the market share, but mots of those M&A were unsuccessful due to lack of the business sense of the far east management. Just think about, how often did they change the worldwide CEO and other officers? No long term, business strategy. Totally useless. The worst was the last M&A of the company I that distributed Ricoh and competitors product. It was in the end of printing world to digital ( no paper document) market. Lost huge money in that north america operation, sadly, the local top management team kept "unexpected" financial negative impact long time, meanwhile left a lot of good workers in the street. Now the justice will be applied.

Was with Ricoh for 27 years before being part of the mass layoff in 2017. Very sad to see. Ricoh has hit the iceberg and just trying to figure out when the band plays.

This was a stupid company 10 years ago and IQ has only got worse. Net Promoter Score: Do you feel you made the right decision regarding the printer you bought 3 days ago? Answer- They’d be stupid to say no b/c they’d be admitting flaws in decision making. Of course They're happy with it b/c it is brand new. Survey them 2 yrs into their 66 month lease. Oh well. Bye bye ricoh.

Totally agree with @1uyb+16qPCApR - Ricoh has always suffered from me too-ism. That combined with a race to the bottom and old school visionless execs just trying to get to retirement have s—ed the life out of this company and its employees.

Ricoh has always followed what other companies have done. Even if what other companies were doing was failing. I’ve worked for Ricoh for over a decade and a half and each time they decided to go in a new direction it was because that’s what everyone else was doing. They don’t innovate they just react. They also keep the same upper executives making the bad decisions and then fire the lower wage earners when their plans don’t work.

Yeah, I saw it and thought the same thing. Ricoh always seems to want to do things the way that Xerox does and how has that worked out for them? Reminds me also of how Ricoh was having techs transition over to IT and then shut that all down. I don’t think they have a clue what they are doing. Get out while you can.
