Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Looks like another desperate attempt for poor sales !

Bed Bath and Beyond has launched “College From Home,” a shopping experience dedicated to helping parents and college students redesign their childhood bedrooms as remote learning spaces for the school year.

Starting Tuesday, the College from Home section will feature virtual learning and study at home dorm essentials including lap desks, organization tools, accessories and bedding to transform childhood bedrooms into dreamy dorm spaces.

They have teamed up with Decorist, an online interior design service, to offer free design tips, curated assortments and inspiration for students to create functional learning spaces at home.

Well, bankruptcy is very popular this year, it’s all the rage in big box retail.

If you look at returns comments/complaints most of the customers return products because they find the same product cheaper at Walmart, Target and Amazon. We are currently trying to get rid of brokers and go direct. But we have contracts with alot of brokers and are locked into certain prices for the next couple of years. Unless we file for bankruptcy....

The difference between any of the back to school merch at BBB and the merch at Walmart is that Walmart buys it directly from the factory, BBB goes through several middlemen who add to the cost of goods. That's why last year the exact same heavyweight hangers we sold in store under the SALT brand for $7.99 were available for $2.99 at Walmart, and they had them available in a rainbow of colors. We had them in black, white, or grey. Same for virtually everything else we sell. We buy it at an inflated price from a broker, Walmart, Target, et al buy it directly from the source.
BBB has been overpaying for their merchandise for almost 50 years, and it's high time that stopped.

A lot of people choose quality over price. If you buy something cheap and have to replace it quickly then it is no bargain. So many people on this board think they can run a corporation. Why not go open your own store?

This college page was in the works before Covid hit. But I agree no one knows how to use decorist. Our product pricing is not competitive with Walmart, Target or Amazon- where you can buy all your back to school pillows, bedding, desk lamps, decorations for less than half the price that BB&B charges.

I've heard BB&B executives say well ours is better quality thats why we charge those prices. Well guess what parents and college kids buy what's cheaper not what's better quality. They have to pay for housing, books and meals they don't want to spend more if they can get it for less somewhere else.

Does not seem desperate - looks like a good marketing move.

That’s all well and good if we sold quality products to back it up....which we don’t!
