Thread regarding L3Harris Technologies layoffs

Grand Rapids is the biggest waste of money and (Human) Resources!

Lots of employee games at L3Harris in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They hire ineffective temps, allow internal management bullying, and close their eyes to serious problems with the lack of ability to ship products to customers that have been paid for in long overdue purchase orders.
HR Department is a group of complete amateurs and the top Vice President and Director staff are clueless about daily issues and long-term problems. (One department's Director cannot even utilize the order entry/MRP system despite being an employee for several decades.) If you belong to a clique here, you're golden. Just coast on by and collect your paycheck.

No sympathy for whatever comes their way during the pandemic. They had issues long before when they took over duties from Sarasota that they could not handle. It boosted the bonus packages for management and crippled the customers who decided to stay with L3 as their supplier. Most were upset enough to escalate issues, but they were just given more promises that were never kept.

Their spending the money taking an online seminar so that they can pad their online resume.

Actually overheard a senior manager say "we'll cross this bridge when we get to that" during a meeting discussing the fact that customers were not getting any shipments on time (in fact, there were some that were over a year in backlog) and were claiming that they would start setting up meetings to get a tour of the facility scheduled.
L3 is postponing some really serious actions in their future. I left. I cannot work for liars.

GR is a horror show but Sarasota was even more unorganized... and to make things worse, the totally incompetent management team said 'sure we can do it' when the terrible idea of bringing the Sarasota business to GR was proposed. Trying to explain to customers that their orders are literally lost in this shuffle is/was a nightmare.

Hiring temps from Walmart? Yep. They're doing it. L3H... 'Always Low Standards.'

Avionics Systems is looking the other way and crossing their fingers. They are riding the high of their stock price based on what seems to be a game of let's make a deal. It won't last. Management is just there for the paycheck until they are next on the chopping block. When you're degree is from GVSU, one of the directional (WMU, CMU) or religious colleges or The University of Dayton, trust me... you're already a joke.
It will catch up with them. Possibly even on a legal level. Taking purchase orders with no ability to fulfill. Management who cannot figure out on a daily basis what is being made or use the 1970's software to attempt to track any orders in place. Glad I left.

"It seemed unethical to keep taking their purchase orders knowing that we were already nearly two years in a backlog.

OMG.
Just watched an episode on 60 Minutes about a company that kept accepting purchase orders when they knew they could not even fulfill them... deja vu!

Before I left, I watched as several other departments lost key people who (like me) were just sick and tired of the daily drama and stress over issues that management either created or refused to roll their own sleeves up and get involved with. I worked ten and eleven hour days trying to make things better for the customer but it could never be enough because there just wasn't the reality that we could provide what they needed. It seemed unethical to keep taking their purchase orders knowing that we were already nearly two years in a backlog. Management made promises and then walked away to let everyone else deal with the daily struggle of trying to accomplish what could not be achieved. Shame on them for this.
I also just got so tired of all of the politically correct nonsense. If you've worked for L3, you know exactly what this is. Either you benefit greatly from it and get to coast by because HR won't go near you for fear of a lawsuit, or you're like me, expected to cover for those who get to be lazy. I am worth more and took my talents elsewhere.

Taken from an online review by a former employee... couldn't have said it better:

"There is no training for positions. It is literally a crash course to where computers were not even set up on the first day.
Repair Customer Service Administrator (Former Employee) - Grand Rapids, MI - February 25, 2020
The “regular” staff made the experience wonderful. Taking time to help educate in the absence of training. Management could use a few improvements..."

It's funny to read the Glassdoor reviews from back in 2010, 2011... and now ....
within the past decade the company has destroyed itself from the inside out due to greed, hiring or promoting completely incompetent people and letting great talent walk out the door and replacing it with temps that used to work in retail or fast food.

This sad state of affairs within Grand Rapids is attributed to THE gm/pres/sector leadership having zero knowledge of the markets they serve. They are all zeros. Rich zeros but nonetheless ...zeros. More hits will come to ol’Avionics Systems via product divestures, outsourcing, and furloughs...its not over yet

Absolutely right. I took a concern to the HR Manager. She just sat there looking around and pretended to take notes but did nothing about what I discussed. Always "in a meeting" when I tried to follow up with her. I ended up leaving the company. Oh, don't even bother to contact their third party company to report any issues, either. I received one automated reply and then was told that my "case was closing" after they reviewed all information. Not once was I even personally contacted.

A valuable piece of advice that I had to learn in my career: Human Resources works for the COMPANY and has no interest whatsoever in assisting individual employees.

They will always take the side of management and are inclined to not do anything to assist any employee.

Most people in Human Resources see it as an easy role. It's not hard to get a degree or experience and this attracts the lower achieving people in any industry. Most are insecure, feel that they have to gossip and act immature to 'fit in' and go through the motions in the daily jobs.

I've never worked anywhere with a competent Human Resources team. L3 just happens to hire the bottom of the barrel.

Three people in HR in GR...
Funny. Not a single one knows what they're doing. But, if you smile enough, that's all you need.
Oh, you also have to be an expert at gossip. That's required.
My favorite part is getting the monthly newsletter with all of the spelling mistakes.
I think they all must have experience or degrees in party planning, and even that's not done very well.

I left because from the ethical standpoint, I could not lie to customers. Management played these games of daily calls and meetings to get 'the story' lined up and I just was not going to do this anymore. Grand Rapids should be ashamed.

I know EXACTLY who you are referring to (actually a few women could fit the description) but yes, they are all completely incompetent. People on training wheels who think they are the end all and be all of the aviation industry!

It all rolls up to top management in Melbourne. They could give a rats @ss. They're all part of the good ole boys club. If you're not in with their click you have no chance of success.

It's not just in Grand Rapids, it's everywhere? And don't bother bringing concerns or comments to HR or management - they DO NOT CARE!

Lots of issues in GR. They're trying to keep good people and they're all leaving. Temps now.
No real customer service. No solid expectations of what can be made. Delays on everything.
