Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Totally top down reorg

It’s a company that needs to focus on shareholder value, I get it, no problem. Why all this long “open” transition spanning over a year, during a pandemic for Christ’s sake. No discussions of what the future should be or open engagement except condescending down talk from above . Right to the end, the level that matters the most to most folks (teams, relabeled stupidly chapters) it is totally opaque without any workforce input or engagement. So all this “openness” is total nonsense, and the vision is totally top down. So its a company reorganization, not a democratic exercise, I get that also, just stop pretending it is otherwise. Those with control appear to want to endlessly flaunt it and drag it out with their non-informative town halls and “engagements”, and those with none just want this process to finish, for better or worse, so we can move forward with Chevron or without. I just hope this painful process is done well enough that we don’t have to repeat it again next year. I am almost thinking EOI sounds good rather than participating in the selection, even though I have no place to immediately go, just because this process s—s and I have gas in my bass boat.

There are a ton of worker-level people on the transformation teams, it’s not all managers building this new org.

Chevron's employees are our most valuable asset. Translation, we need you until we decide we don't.
We are well compensated and provided with many benefits. Honestly, if you can hang on for the long ride its a great place to work and financially rewarding. But at the end of the day; its business. We are but cannon fodder.

Nice day on Possum Kingdom reservoir today, hot but with a breeze. Beer ran low late afternoon but three whites and a very nice bigm for dinner tonight. Might be late for work Monday, but then who would know. Hope that selection event goes well.

You were operating under the premise that Corporations are somehow democratic lol. They are not and never were . It's operated like totalitarian state , like military , chain of command an it has always been that way. Information and orders are sent own the chain of command to execute period. Next point how can a country be democratic and free when it run like a totalitarian state for the most part with the appearance free elections?

All I read is you have gas in the boat but wondering if you have a spare seat? I'm not going EOI and trying my luck with selections so I can continue to fill my boat too. Good luck on the water. Best place to forget about Covid19 and transformation.

I'm there with you. It's pretty sad watching the survival mode of certain types with their power plays, busy work creation and shows of strength to maintain significance... Makes this limbo period all the more painful.
