Thread regarding Bass Pro Shops layoffs

Grass IS greener

Former GSM here. I left several months ago and now work for a grocery store. One of the best moves I have ever made. For myself not feeling safe was the last straw but the past year contributed as well. Essentially I managed softlines and my team was directed to cover about 85% of the duties needed to support the front end, hunting and fishing were never required to do the same. I was working about 70 hours a week and still couldn't maintain my departments which stressed me to no end. Now I work my 40 hours and can easily keep up with my duties as well as help others in my new store daily. I also have a lot more time with my family which is easily worth the pay cut. Haven't looked back since.

Almost lost half of my stores leads with zero replacements hired. Basspro is really going to have to up its pay raise/bonuses like Lowe’s is handing out if it wants to keep anyone worth a damn at the moment. I feel like they really don’t want to help any of us that or be competitive at all.

We have two large warehouses opening up within 15 minutes of cabela's. I'm sure we are going to lose several employees to them. Starting rate is much higher.

Most of our new hires are kids with no work history or any experience with hunting, fishing, camping. Etc. Its a shame and customers are even noticing the lack of knowledgeable employees.

I will start looking next spring. Too restricted right now from trying to jump ship. Heck, I'd work 2 jobs if I could, one in the daytime at full-time and a part-time evening job. But I can not right now because good old Cabelas changes my schedule weekly. Gotta love the pure manure that retail shovels at us.

I’m currently a mens apparel lead. I just took a job at a bank for around 60 percent more than what I’m making now yesterday. Please know your worth and that basspro is purposely trying to keep you down in case things get worse this holiday. Other employers are giving such greater benefits during this time. KNOW YOUR WORTH.

20 years in and so sick of it.... Time to move on. Dread going to work every day. Monthly expenses and day care keeps me here. But yet I dread every shift. With the pandemic we are not safe at work.
Johnny please wake up!!!!

Agree with the above. This whole operation is the biggest sh– show I have ever seen. Zero loyalty to associates, family oriented for who? Pay and raises are horrible. A once class act has turned into a rural carnival! Hope they figure it out before they loose more customers.
