Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

GM becomes the second after Ford because 1.5 years ‘stupid’ action - They laid off many talent engineers due to their ages and keep many inexperience engineers who only know how to kiss their bosses. FCA & PSA merger will put GM into the third. GM leaders are worry about this, and they initiated a legal fight with FCA to try to block the merger. Again, this is another ‘stupid’ action. MB always use a political mindset to manage the business, it will fail eventually.

I don’t understand all these people saying fca move fast... do you even know how long ago WS program started??? And now they just revealed concept version... 2020 and not even out yet. Also look at Dodge line up and tell me that they move fast. They are using dinosaur age zombie cars that FCA refuses to update nor change. They don’t move fast... and lots of young age engineers but not enough veterans. I moved from FCA because of that reason.

I also was let go at GM due to age. I love working for FCA now and at a higher salary than GM. The CEO is also very competent compared to Mary B who really needs to move on to other opportunities like her CFO, if GM is to survive.

I started work at FCA after GM kicked me out due to age–I had many recent outstanding performance reviews. It is nice to be working for a company without all of the GM politics and unfairness. The one thing that ticked me off the most was the lack of quantifiable support for who was asked to leave in the layoff. GM refused to look at performance reviews, preferring to use Directors personal opinions about employees. Nice to no longer be working for the incompetent Mary Barra.

Worked in both GM and FCA business. GM is the grandpa of the industry. Slow to move, but excellent in quality on the engineering side. FCA is the teenager, agile, quick to maneuver, but less so on quality. Fix it on the fly. They move too fast, but the mistakes of moving quickly are also countered by profit.

That said, GM should be worried. While I prefer the laid back GM environment, I can’t discount FCAs proven results. FCA is a pain in the azz to work for. But they make money and get it done. And they’re paying a ton for real talent. Thanks GM, you didn’t want me any longer, so FCA is paying a premium for it. Karma is a witch.

Ford isn’t really a consideration in our circle.

Sounds like a very bitter former employee. Time to move on.
