Retail holidays may be slowly getting back to a sane/hostile "norm". Bleak Friday sales have dropped in this region for the last 4 years and retail strategies are changing to reflect that. Perhaps we can trundle back to the good-er ol' days of "Moonlight Madness" sales on special evenings between holidays. Those were easier to deal with when the stores opened, say 10pm until 1am on the odd day to get shoppers whipped into a frenzy without burning out the workers with all-nighters.

I still have a Belk/Leggett circular around here, somewhere, from 1981 that has the old "Shop Monday through Saturday" with the times listed, similar to page 7 here:
https://digitalcommons.winthrop.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1079&context=thejohnsonian1980s

Opening hours varied from town to town, but ours was 10am to 6pm Monday through Thursday, 10am to 7pm for late shoppers on Friday, and back to closing at 6pm on Saturday. Closed (cuh-losed) on Sunday.

Easter has always been a “non paid” holiday. All stores closed to allow employees to observe religious worship, and associates could be scheduled 5 full scheduled days. Christmas and Thanksgiving were the only company paid benefit, all FTE paid time off for Holiday Observance, exclusive of accumulated PTO.

When they opened for Thanksgiving Day shopping, all FTE were paid for Holiday, (exclusive of PTO deduction), and paid time and a half for scheduled hours worked.” All PT employees, although not paid Thanksgiving Holiday pay, were paid the same, “time and a half.”

Based on Workday published handbook, Thanksging Day could just be work day 1 of 5. Holiday pay probably taken away. Likely paid “time and a half,” formally same obligation/appreciation to PT.

Full-time Flex!!!! Didn’t even know and was not advised when asked to sign, “yet, another form somewhat explained and delivered by direct manager.”

Maybe they are taking away Thanksgiving holiday pay because they're Not going to open.

So now they're taking thanksgiving pay. Not surprised. I agree they'll open Thanksgiving. The reason they're taking the holiday pay is so they won't have to pay the time and a half for thanksgiving hours. Would they really open and run a huge sale though with covid 19 still around?

As with any changes regarding unusual, (inclement weather)/holiday pay, seems to me Thanksgiving may not be a paid holiday now. Handbook available on line through Workday now reads, “Belk offers one paid holiday,” with reference to Christmas in a frame, as if it were a gift.

She is in the bunker planning the Thanksgiving Event . She is is going to ambush all other retails that are committing to close and letting their employees enjoy time together as a family . The doorbuster circular will make the dollar store look like a high end retailer . She will be in Mexico at her resort with a margarita , while the pool boy serves her chips and salsa . I think she calls it inspirational leadership while the underlying are sweating she is enjoying her glorious life and ready to cash in her bonus for draining Belk of every possible asset .
