Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Constantly understaffed

Are we the only location that has been constantly understaffed for the past several months? The number of customers keeps increasing - even with the COVID-19 numbers also going up - and yet we are getting no help. Some of us have to cover several departments at once - you can just imagine how well that works out! We need more people right now.

i got out 3 years ago after a very long career with the company. I bled blue and gray. However it got to a point where I no longer felt appreciated or wanted. All i will say is leaving was the best decision i’ve ever made in my life and if you are miserable or dreading going in every day or you have a store manager that clearly has it in for you then you need to consider leaving. There is a whole world out there outside of Lowes.

20 years here. Only gonna say it once lowes for many people is just bus stop employment especially younger people. They stay a bit and on to the next one. Ive seen many peaks and valleys in my time. I have been very disciplined investing in 401k. Its paid off. You job hoppers keep on hopping you will never accumulate anything, Winners never quit and quitters never win.

We have highest number of open positions I’ve ever seen, and shortages will get worse when college students leave. I have always worked hard and at first felt bad, but there is only so much you can do. Long line in OSLG and no extra cashiers, long wait to get key to open gate (with multiple pages), by yourself and people lined up with questions- I just do what I can, delays are not my fault. I’m working as fast as I can, I no longer get stressed about it. I remind people that complain we are in the middle of a Global Pandemic, and are short resources that want to work in retail which is high risk.

I quit 4 days ago because I could not keep up and was beginning to take it out on my co workers and customers. I was the top sales person in my department . I was appliance dept sales specialist I liked my job until the under staffing got out of hand. I was spending most of my time pulling orders for sterling and being yelled at for not getting my IMS done. We just went to third party and the complaints we taking most of the first part of my shift. I was going though everything the first poster was going though I could not take it anymore.

The "new" Lowe's is royally failing our CUSTOMERS. We are loosing sales right and left due to us constantly trying to do more with less in order to get the store overhead/payroll costs down. Lowe's was never Home Depot. Home Depot is heavy on the contractor/Pro side, while Lowe's was more weighted towards the non-pro DIY customer. Simple fact is the non-pro DIY customers require more out of the department associates than Pro customers. Without that support customers often get frustrated and either walk out and/or cancel their existing orders because of the piss-poor or non-existent customer/associate support both pre and post sale.

I happen to be an appliance dept Sales Specialist in the largest cross-dock/XDT market that Lowe's currently has and I can tell you that on most days half of my day is spent putting out dumpster fires related to issues surrounding customer orders. Missed deliveries, third-party delivery complaints, late orders, damaged product, Sterling orders being routed 100+ miles away to name just a few. Don't even get me started on our 70+% out of stocks (which coincidentally started months before the COVID-19 crisis began) and the nightmare of trying to get order replenishment to put product on order for us (5.3 doesn't work for XDT stores). I even have one customer that has been waiting since MARCH for a stock top load washer (he has been using a loaner unit that we provided all this time).

I am also one of those id–ts that will often work off the clock (even coming in on my day off) to try to keep up with my order management and details because I simply do not have the time to get everything done during my scheduled shift (absolutely NO overtime allowed) and I never have time to take any 15 minute breaks. I no longer do this out of loyalty to Lowe's (as I feel Lowe's has long abandoned us) but out of loyalty to my CUSTOMERS. If you have any type of integrity and work ethic I can promise you that my store/department will absolutely put you the the test. The only store employees that are happy are the ones with the "I don't care" attitude who coincidentally are the ones that help keep all those dumpster fires raging. Yes there are plenty of those types of employees to be had in this market but do you really want them for anything more than cleaning carts? And to the previous poster, not to worry as I absolutely will be leaving soon. :)

You are not alone A Nonius Mus, most every store is running short.
