Thread regarding Ricoh layoffs

Age discrimination lawsuit

From what I've been seeing and reading here, it seems that the latest Ricoh layoffs have disproportionately affected older employees. Can this be proven in court? Age discrimination is illegal and if there is even a small chance to hold this company accountable I think it's worth exploring. Does anybody know if this possible?

I was recently laid off in my early 60s and I also have a disability. In the time leading up to my layoff, my manager went so far as to yell and scream at me it was terrible.

I had to sue RICOH for age discrimination a few years back. They took over the original company I was employee with. They would not hire me saying I was too old to catch on, didn’t like my looks and wanted someone to dress in short skirts.
I’m 5’3 petite weighing 110 and I dress very nice. I had the job for over 10 years RICOH wanted a younger woman and that was it.
I won my case!!

Feb 14 got fire over the phone after 14 years with the company, I wonder if that have anything to do with age 61 years old, I didn't take the package they offer to me 2 years in the road... I never had a single reprimand with them...

I got laid off at the end of April. Two of us on my sales team were laid off. I’m 54, my co-worker is 49. I was wondering about the age discrimination as well. I’m also a female, not many of us representing the sales force in Production Print. I still haven’t found another job and it’s getting very stressful.

I just got whacked at 58. 21 years with many technical talents. They are hunting for tenure.

7 people got lay off in 2018. Brought a suit together and won. They had all been there between 28 and 29 years. Used an employment lawyer. Ricoh settled in less then 8 months. Average age of employees 53.

I think you're wrong. Google it. There's been plenty of lawsuits against Ricoh for age discrimination and they've had to pay out on many. Mind you, those are only the ones that were made public. I'm sure many are settled behind the scenes with gag orders attached.

The reason that it affected older people so much was because Ricoh had/has a large population of older workers with the median age of the workforce being 45+. I'm a former 50+ year old worker that was laid off myself, but I know the facts and math won't support an age discrimination lawsuit.

As much as I'd love to see Ricoh get punished for the way they treat employees, this is a dumb idea.
